Job Summary and Qualifications
The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Cath Lab Operations Supervisor, Cardiology Manager, and Cardiovascular services director, is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to adult and geriatric patients with a broad range of illnesses, admission/assessment of patients, medication administration, direct and indirect patient care, circulating diagnostic and interventional cases, scrubbing diagnostic/interventional procedures, and procedure documentation/hemodynamic monitoring. Other departmental duties as assigned, such as: ordering supplies/maintaining inventory, providing appropriate information towards future needs and actively supports process improvement within the Cardiology Department. The RN maintains an active marketing profile for the facility/physicians and maintains professional standards and seeks professional growth. The RN practices in accordance with organizational medical staff directives, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Cardiology Department and the Heart Hospital of Austin at Round Rock Medical Center and Georgetown Hospital.
What you will do:
Manage the patient with suspected/documented history of cardiac disease undergoing diagnostic/interventional procedures.
Complete and document assessmentappropriate toAge/patient condition. (High Risk/HighVolume.)
Reassess and document patient condition according to policy and patient condition (High Risk/High Volume.)
Administer medications;monitorand document response (High Risk/High Volume.)
Monitor patient’s overall status throughoutpre, during, and post-procedurecare
Immediatelycommunicatespatient changes tophysician. (High Risk/HighVolume.)
Demonstrateproficiencyin managing patients with a potentiallylife-threatening dysrhythmia or hemodynamic changeviaa physician order by usingmedications and emergency equipment including but not limited to:
- Defibrillator
- Dopamine
- NTG (High Risk/High Volume)
- IABP
- Ventilator
Explain procedure to patient and assesspatientsunderstanding prior to start of procedure (High Risk/Low Volume.)
Demonstrate ability to use equipment within Cath Lab
Enter patient demographic data (High Risk/Low Volume.)
Adhere to radiation safety precautions (High Risk/Low Volume)
Safely defibrillate, cardiovert and pace using pacer-defibrillator (High Risk/High Volume)
Perform functions to support departmental operations at both Round Rock Medical Center and Georgetown Hospital.
Serve as liaison between patient,physicianand other departments tooptimizepatient care and efficiency (High Risk/LowVolume)
Schedule procedures correctly, including entering reservations (High Risk/Low Volume.)
Proficiently use Meditechto retrieve pertinent patient data (High Risk/Low Volume.)
Monitor patients in CPRUasdesignatedby Supervisor (High Risk/Low Volume.)
Enter charges into Meditech asrequired(High Risk/Low Volume.)
Attend a minimum of 80% of staff meetings (High Risk/Low Volume.)
Assistwith department PI activities as assigned(High Risk/Low Volume.)
Assistwith orientation for new employees and students as assigned (High Risk/Low Volume.)
Maintain Narcotic count on a daily basis with adherence to hospital policies (High Risk/Low Volume.)
What qualifications you will need:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- NIH Stroke Scale must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
