JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Functions as a RN utilizing the nursing process with performing comprehensive psychiatric /mental health assessments. Evaluates mental status and refers patients to other treatment providers when necessary. Assumes primary responsibility and accountability for one's nursing practices as defined in the Tennessee Code of Nursing Practice, as it pertains to a licensed practical nurse and functions under the supervision of a physician.         

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs comprehensive psychiatric /mental health assessments, evaluates mental status and refers to other treatment providers when necessary. 
  • Monitors changes in health status, including but not limited to vital signs, weights, nutritional status, and disease states and reports abnormal values as required.   
  • Administers and monitors medications as ordered.  Monitors medication effectiveness, side effects and compliance.  May perform assessments for any side effects/EPS. Monitors clinic medication supply and maintains necessary documentation.
  • Provides phone triage and addresses medication issues with patients when necessary.  Provides proper education and guidance as necessary. Assists patients with accessing medications including obtaining prior authorizations and accessing prescription assistance programs.
  • Provides healthcare education to patients and/or families or staff as assigned.
  • Provides CLIA Waived laboratory testing as ordered. Maintains CLIA waived laboratory environment including Quality Control testing and documentation. Monitors received laboratory values and reports abnormal values as required. Phlebotomy may be required.
  • Provides employee health services as directed, including annual influenza vaccination clinics and staff TB skin testing.
  • Works in collaboration with other members of the treatment team and in collaboration with external health care providers as necessary. Nurses may provide direct physical supervision to Certified Medical Assistants and delegate tasks in accordance with the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act and other applicable regulations. 
  • Completes clinical documentation within organization’s policy standards.
  • Maintains all mandatory trainings up to date.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Level
High School diploma or GED required. Graduation from accredited RN program.

Years of Experience

Minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year experience in psychiatric or equivalent mental health related nursing experience is preferred.

Certification/Licensure

  • Registered Nurse (RN) in Tennessee required
  • CPR-BLS certification required
