Start as a nurse extern and transition to a nursing position post graduation. Start your nursing career as a Newly Licensed RN with the same team you had the opportunity to work during your externship. This will make your transition an easier one with less ambiguities.
 

4 Center is the surgical unit at Aurora Sinai; treating orthopedic, urological, bariatric and general surgical patients, along with medical/telemetry patients. This is a fully staffed unit, no agency, no travelers with all staff committed to developing the next generation of nurses!

8 hrs a week required.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, completes activities of daily living, vital sign completion and blood glucose monitoring.
  • Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in establishing a plan of care based upon an analysis of health, education and developmental needs and patient/family preferences.
  • Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, evaluates patient response to interventions and effectively communicates observations and patient needs to the Registered Nurse.
  • Develops delegation skills appropriate to Health Unit Coordinators, Nursing Assistants and technical roles on unit.
  • Administers medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse. The level of clinical judgment and proficiency of skill must be evaluated prior to medication administration.
  • Manages an increased number of patients and incorporates principles of time management into shift routine.
  • Demonstrates an ability to collect and synthesize relevant patient data accurately identifying patient status and needs.
  • In emergency situations and under appropriate supervision of a Registered Nurse, participates in activities they have demonstrated knowledge and skill in.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
  • Must be able to:

  • Must be able to:
  • - push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.

Position Summary A Brief Overview Title: Nurse Intern Site: Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital Location: St. Petersburg FL Status: Part-Time Shift: Nights – 24 hours per week Performs general patient care such as, hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and increased/constant observation in a basic role with the guidance and mentoring of the Registered Nurse. What you will do Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health. Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change without packing of wounds; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy).. Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned. Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs. Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team. Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients. Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality. Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures. Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team. Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients. Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines. Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures. Maintains a safe and clean environment. Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members. Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility. Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests. May have limited access to areas storing medications. Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Completes all mandatory training. Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population of patients served on his or her assigned unit. Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status. Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. Provides the care needed as described in Orlando Health’s policies and procedures. Consistently uses time and resources effectively and efficiently. Performs all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Nursing student currently enrolled in a nursing program at a college or university. Successful completion of fundamentals nursing course. Proof of continued enrollment in a pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year. None Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
