Job Summary
As a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care. You’ll work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth clinic operations and excellent patient experiences.

Reports to: Manager, Clinic Staffing

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Patient Care: Prepare patients for examinations, take medical histories, and assist with procedures.
• Clinical Tasks: Administer medications as directed by physicians, perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), collect samples for lab testing, and change wound dressings.
• Administrative Duties: Schedule appointments, prepare insurance forms, and maintain accurate medical records.
• Patient Education: Explain medical conditions, treatments, and medications to patients as directed by physician/provider.
• Liaison Role: Act as a bridge between doctors and patients, ensuring effective communication and understanding.
• Appointment Management: Schedule patient appointments according to physician availability. Explain intake forms and procedures to new patients. Process payments after treatment.
• Patient Registration and Records: Accurately register new patients by completing necessary documentation. Maintain and update patient records, including personal information and health data.
• Administrative Tasks: Perform data entry, word processing, and filing. Verify medical insurance benefits and collect co-pays. Balance petty cash and maintain financial records.

Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or relevant certification.
• Hands-on experience in a similar role (preferably one year at minimum).

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• Certified Medical Assistant certification from the NHA, NAHP, AAMA, or NCCT.

Skills and Abilities
• Strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency in clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, administering injections, and performing phlebotomy.
• Excellent communication skills for patient interactions and collaboration with colleagues.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
• Proficient in using scheduling software and basic office applications.


Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff. Coordinate patient care across different departments within the clinic.

Physical Capabilities
Work is of medium demand. Standing, walking most of the time on duty. Lifting and pushing patients, carts, and wheelchairs. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Good tactile sensation necessary for checking patients. Talking and hearing is essential in instructing the supervising nursing personnel and in receiving doctors’ orders and patient’s condition reports. Near visual acuity for accurate recording of patients’ charts.

Environmental/Working Conditions
Work in a clinical setting, interacting with patients and healthcare professionals. Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Job Summary The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) performs all clerical activities required to coordinate assigned department for patient care procedures.
