About ThedaCare!

Summary :

Program offers care to patients 24/7 on an on-call basis within the emergency department. The SANE program sees patients of all ages and genders. SANEs must be comfortable practicing autonomously in a patient-centered environment while discussing sensitive topics.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) provide direct care to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, strangulation, and child abuse who present to the emergency departments. Using trauma informed care and forensic nursing, they deliver coordinated, expert forensic and medical care necessary to increased successful prosecution of sex offenders and to assure essential medial intervention to victims of violence.

Job Description:

**Hiring for our next SANE training 10/5/2026-10/9/2026. All candidates must be available to attend this week long training**

Schedule Requirements:
•    36 hours of on-call time per month- 12 hours of weekend call required

•    Must be within 1 hour for response time
•    Attend quarterly team meetings
•    Attend 1 annual education day
•    Maintain competency through 6 hours of continuing education per calendar year

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide/identify need for acute medical care within scope of practice

  • Perform expert forensic evidence collection from

  • Maintain competency in exam components

  • Collaborates with community and legal agencies such as law enforcement. Participate in the legal process, including testifying in court as needed

Qualifications

  • Current Wisconsin RN Licensure

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) required

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

  • One year of direct patient care in an acute setting required

  • Two years of direct patient care in an acute setting preferred

  • Forensic nurse experience preferred

  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Critical thinking skills working as an autonomous care provider

  • Strong independent learning with dedication to maintain and advance professional knowledge

Level of Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Years of Experience: 2 years of clinical nursing experience What You’ll Do: Conduct comprehensive assessments and create timely care plans & interventions Collaborate and negotiate with patients/families and the multidisciplinary team to meet goals and preferences Provide continuity of care and discharge planning aligned with regulatory standards Coordinate smooth transfers and handoffs across units and settings Deliver case management services (healthcare access, finances, housing, family dynamics, illness adjustment) using community resources Initiate internal/external referrals; document discharge planning and UM activities accurately and on time Perform concurrent/retrospective reviews using approved criteria Partner closely with Social Work and support staff to implement safe, effective plans of care Identify and remove barriers to discharge; expedite care delivery and report care coordination/UM outcomes Collaborate with managers, physicians, medical directors, and physician advisors on status, progression of care, and regulatory compliance Complete UM activities (payer updates, data collection, denials coordination, avoidable delay management); deliver CMS notices within required timeframes Build relationships with community agencies; collaborate with Ambulatory Care Management/Continuing Health Educate staff on admission status, acute care criteria, UM, care coordination, discharge planning, and regulatory requirements Provide age-appropriate care per departmental standards ​ Schedule Details/Additional Information: Part time 20 hrs weekly (average) 7:30am - 4:00pm Approximately 1 weekend every 2 months (day off before and after) On-Call rotation, approximately 15 days per year (7:30am to 10:00pm) Ready to Take the Next Step: Apply Now!
