Certified Surgical Tech at Northern Michigan Surgical Suites 
Responsible for ensuring proper care and use of surgical instruments. Anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Establishes and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room.
 
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure
  • Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians’ preference cards
  • Inspects equipment for proper working condition
  • Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures
  • Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for the procedure
  • Arranges instruments according to given procedure
  • Confirms that instruments work properly
  • Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays
  • Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action according to policy
  • Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment as directed
  • Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety
  • Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure
  • Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed
  • Maintains and updates instrument cards and surgeons’ preference cards
  • Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician
  • Documents patient-care records and other forms according to facility policies and procedures
  • Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about the patient’s status
  • Assists with room turnover/room cleaning throughout the day for optimal patient flow
  • Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications: 
  • High School Diploma / GED; completion of a Scrub Technician Certification Program.
  • Certification as required by state and/or center.
  • 1-2 years of operating room experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • BLS Certification.

USPI Northwest Surgery Center Red Oak is seeking a motivated Surgical Tech to join our team. We have 5 OR rooms and 2 Treatment rooms. We perform outpatient surgical procedures in Colon and Rectal, ENT, Gastroenterology, General, Gynecology, Hand, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Plastic, Podiatry, Urology. We are looking for a candidate to be available Monday-Friday, schedule subject to changed based on surgical schedule and flow of day. Candidate needs to be available for some early mornings and later evenings. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures. Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment. Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants. Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated. Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon. Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets. Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background. Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment. Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills. Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment. Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team.
