
Registered Nurse - Unit Supervisor - Pediatrics - Children's and Women's Hospital

Responsibilities
- Develops a staffing schedule based on skill mix/unit needs
- Performs staffing assessments and makes adjustments as needed
- Assists the Nurse Manager in completing annual performance evaluations
- Evaluates departmental policies and procedures on an annual basis and ensures compliance with current regulations
- Collaborates with the Nurse Manager and Unit Educator in the development and implementation of educational programs and the maintenance of skills for continued employee development
- Performs payroll functions as directed
- Utilizes a personal computer to access the Hospital Information System
- Assists the Nurse Manager in developing unit goals and objectives and implements standards of care and practice
- Informs Nurse Manager of clinical, management, and personnel issues that impact patient care and require the Nurse Manager's intervention
- Assists with the development and implementation of the unit's Quality Assurance Program
- Assists the staff in providing continuity of care, patient teaching, and discharge planning by acting as liaison between patient, family, physicians, and social worker
- Maintains clinical competency and functions as a staff nurse when needed
- Functions as clinical role model and resource person for staff in dealing with difficult patient care situations
- Assists manager in implementation of new services or programs
- Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone
- Maintains accurate and complete records
- Maintains Quality Management and Variance reports
- Responds to digital, voice and overhead pages
- Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict
- Cooperates and helps others and improves the performance of the unit
- Completes all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements
- Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Participates on committees as assigned
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required
- Related duties as required.

Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and 3 years professional nursing experience in the area of clinical focus Required
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
