Job Summary

The Nurse Intern at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for performing routine nursing procedures and tasks under the supervision of a nurse, documenting patient information in the electronic health record, and maintaining good standing in the nursing school program. The job requires effective interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritize patient care, and the capability to recognize changes in a patient's condition and report them to the registered nurse.

Performs routine nursing procedures and tasks related to patients within assigned area under the supervision of a nurse. Documents in the electronic health record as appropriate. This includes vital signs, activities of daily living, weight, intake/ output, and other basic task.

Education

  • Associate's Degree Must be enrolled in one of the final two (2) semesters of a nursing program leading to an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Employment as a Nurse Intern may not extend beyond a two semester period.. Required

  • Must be able to perform collect blood (by venipuncture), urine and sputum specimen.

  • Must be able to insert simple urinary catheters with the assistant of other licensed nurse.
  • Must be able to prioritize patient care, perform assigned duties and report to the registered nurse/ charge nurse.
  • Maintain all of the NMHS Behavioral Standards.

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.

Job Summary Under the direction of the Registered Nurse Preceptor, the Nurse Extern’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, utilization of the nursing process in the provision of care, communicating with all members of the health care team to assure patient goals are being met and coordinated, providing excellent customer service while supporting the patients and families physical and emotional heath.
