Job Duties

Flexible staffing arrangement for Nursing Assistants (CNAs) seeking additional hours, no more than an average of 29 hours per week.

Provides quality nursing care as part of an interdisciplinary team. Assists with performing activities of daily living (ADLs) for inmates while maintaining accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment. Observes, reports, document and communicate interventions, treatments, behaviors, emergent needs, and situations as they arise. Assists with caring for the mental health and physical needs of inmates. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.

Required to work both weekend and rotating shifts in order to provide the institution with 24 hour/ 7 day a week medical coverage.

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia CNA license issued by the board of nursing (if you are a recent graduate of a CNA program in VA and not licensed, the NNAAP exam must be scheduled at the time of application).

Knowledge of patient care, personal care techniques, and infection control measures.

Demonstrated ability to take and record vital signs; to transfer and transport patients in a safe manner using proper body mechanics; to recognize signs and symptoms indicating distress; and to perform CPR.

Ability to intervene in crisis or problem situations.

Ability to work in a secure/locked environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, take initiative, organize duties, and manage time.

Additional Considerations

Experience working in a hospital, nursing, or secured patient environment.

Skilled in the use of a computer to include Outlook (professional email client) and Microsoft Office
