Nurse Intern, Critical Care Units

Position Summary

ATTENTION NURSING STUDENTS!!!

 

Brookwood Hospital is looking for nursing students who are interested in participating in our Nurse Internship program! 

 

This is a PAID program that allows you to work alongside our RNs while dedicated to a specific unit and team.  This is more than just a nurse assistant role, this is a role in which you will learn skills that you will be able to take with you after graduation as you are mentored by our RNs and managers.  We also provide flexibility with our schedule whenever possible.  

 

This is not a nursing assistant role disquised as an internship! You will have the opportunity to work with your assigned RN with each patient and learn from them.  If this sounds like the type of opportunity you are looking for, apply today as spots are limited!

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
  • Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change without packing of wounds; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy).
  • Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned.
  • Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
  • Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
  • Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
  • Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
  • Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training  

  • Nursing student currently enrolled in a nursing program at a college or university.
  • Successful completion of fundamentals nursing course.
  • Proof of continued enrollment in a pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year.

Licensure/Certification  

  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare certification.

  • No prior experience required
