The RN Staff Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care based on the standards of care and the policies of LCMC Health. The RN delegates to professional and non-professional personnel involved in the delivery of care.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Patient Care:**
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for patients in the sports medicine unit.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, symptoms, and overall health status, responding promptly to any changes.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Provide post-operative care, including wound care, pain management, and patient education.
2. **Assisting in Procedures and Surgeries:**
- Assist in preparing and positioning patients for in-clinic procedures and surgeries.
- Support surgeons and medical staff during in and outpatient surgical procedures, ensuring aseptic technique and patient safety.
- Ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available and prepared for procedures.
3. **Coordination and Collaboration:**
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals, to develop and execute effective care plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and post-operative care.
- Coordinate patient transfers, admissions, and discharges, ensuring continuity of care.
4. **Documentation and Compliance:**
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of all patient interactions, treatments, and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and institutional policies, including infection control and patient safety standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices in sports medicine care.
5. **Professional Development:**
- Stay current with advancements in sports medicine nursing through continuous education and professional development.
- Participate in department meetings, case reviews, and training sessions.
**Qualifications:**
- **Education:** Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- **Licensure:** Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of [State].
- **Experience:** Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in sports medicine, orthopedics, or a related field.
- **Certification:** Basic Life Support
(BLS) required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Orthopedic Nurse Certification (ONC) are a plus.
- **Skills:** Proficient in clinical skills related to sports medicine, including IV therapy, wound care, and pain management. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
