Texas Oncology is looking for a Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Medical Oncology Department at our Kerrville, Tx location. This is a full-time Monday-Friday hours (8:30am-5pm) position with no weekends, call or major holidays.

What does the Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) do?

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Must recognize physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care and participates in company-wide quality initiatives. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:

Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.
Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.
Provides psychosocial support to patients and families.
Facilitates clinical operations and patient care
Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart.
Facilitates and schedules consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals and future appointments for patients.
Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
As necessary, facilitates communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinates services related to patient care.
Assist patients in locating available community resources.
Inter professional collaboration
Acts as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) will have the following background and experience:

Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred
Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience
Willing to consider an entry, mid, or senior level candidate
Current RN state license with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

About the Role The PAT/ PreOp/ PACU RN is responsible to handle inbound pre-operative patients to ensure patients receive quality pre-operative screening for our surgical procedures and post anesthetic care patients emerging from the haze of anesthesia. There are several tasks a PACU nurse needs to perform in a post-operative unit such as guiding patients to consciousness and assisting them in handling personal needs in the first few hours after surgery. This nurse is important not just for their role as a guide in the outcome of a surgery but also for handling medication administration duties which are very important at this stage. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Pre-admissions Testing Nurse Duties: Pre-admission testing nurse or PAT nurse duties include overseeing intake, during which you perform an initial physical assessment and interview the patient to obtain their medical history via phone call prior to day of surgery. PAT duties include performing any tests the surgeon has ordered, such as an EKG, and may be expected to draw blood for lab work. PAT nurses are often among the first people patients deal with as they prepare to have surgery. The PAT nurse is expected to help patients understand the process, answer any questions they might have, and discuss their post-surgical care plan with them. Preoperative Duties of Nurse: Manage patients’ admission processes to preoperative department in a hospital. Assess the status of patients’ health in pre-op and ensure accuracy of identification wristband. Ensure that operative and informed consents are in order. Determine the surgeon and procedure being carried out. Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure. Initiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure and attending medical staff. Post-operative Duties of PACU Nurse: Assess patients’ condition after a surgery has been performed. Ensure that all vitals are within normal range. Log all findings in patients’ files. Answer patients’ questions and ensure that they are kept comfortable. Make sure that all relevant IVs are in check. Develop individualized care plans based on each individual patient’s condition. Ensure that all nursing activities are carried out in accordance to the individual patient care plan. Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the doctor. Initiate patient education programs to ensure that both patients and families are educated on procedures and medications. Determine when patients are ready to be moved to their rooms. Perform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergencies. Record sedation levels and body temperature. Manage blood and fluid transfusions and draw specimens. Ensure that the post-operative space is clean and sanitized. Change bandages and dress surgical wounds. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Current and active CPR certification. Current and valid nursing license, in good standing with the State licensing board. 2-3 years’ experience in critical care nursing preferred.
