A Brief Overview
Responsible for the nursing care of patients requiring specialized judgment and skill. This judgment and skill is based on knowledge of the natural, behavioral and nursing sciences and humanities as the basis for application of the nursing process in wellness and illness care. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- Provides nursing care from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation.
- Practices nursing within his/her scope of practice as defined by the states regulating each base.
- Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Pedi-Flite. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to ensure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies onboard aircraft and ambulance to deliver patient care. Keeps aircraft clean and orderly to ensure rapid response to all transport requests.
- Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals and the public.
- Functions as a medical flight member preforming required briefs, documentation etc.
- Performs advanced skills and procedures as approved by Pedi-Flite Medical Director(s) which includes ETT tube placement, Ventilators, Nitric administration, etc.
- Serves as a role model, educator and clinical resource.
- Participates regularly in Pedi-Flite activities, meetings, education, projects and committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- Required - Bachelor's Degree Nursing
Work Experience Requirements
- Required - Critical Care 3-5 years
- Preferred - Pediatric and neonatal critical care 3-5 years

- Required - BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
- Required - Class D License with F - Tennessee - Tennessee Motor Vehicle

- Required - Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification - American Heart Association
- Required - STABLE - Neonatal - American Association for Respiratory Care
- Required - EMS Driver - Mississippi State Department of Health
- Required - Emergency Medical Technician - National Registry Of Emergency Medical Technicians
- Required - TNCC Trauma Nursing Core Course - Emergency Nurses Association

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Analytical skills necessary to assess complex patient conditions effectively and to develop comprehensive plans of care.
- Synthesizes multiple sources of information to assist in the resolution of human responses to complex problems.
- Skill and proficiency in applying highly technical principles, concepts and techniques, which are central to the nursing profession.
- Other certifications may be required depending on assigned nursing unit
Supervision Provided by this Position
- The Registered Nurse directs and delegates all patient care activities on nursing units
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 150 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
