The Manager, Advanced Practice Providers (APP) – Heart & Vascular Service Line is a licensed Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) responsible for the leadership, operational oversight, and management of APPs across the Rush Heart & Vascular service line. This role supports comprehensive cardiovascular care across inpatient, outpatient, procedural, consultative, and specialty cardiac programs.

Nurse Practitioner:
Rush has over 600 APPs across the enterprise that provide comprehensive patient care each day autonomously and in collaboration with other members of the health care team. Across the system, the APPs are supported by 4 levels of leadership, including 39 Lead APPs, three chief CRNAs, and a Senior Director of Advanced Practice Providers. Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total pay range shown reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, specialty; relevant experience and training; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role. Additional compensation may include premium pay rates, sign-on bonuses, and relocation allowances. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.
Pay Range: $162,000 - $212,000

Job Responsibilities
- Provides direct oversight, coordination, and management of APPs across the Heart & Vascular service line, including inpatient, ambulatory, procedural, imaging, consultative, and subspecialty cardiovascular programs.
- Partners with Heart & Vascular physician, nursing, and operational leadership to establish and execute strategic clinical and operational priorities.
- Collaborates with cardiovascular leadership teams to ensure seamless integration of APP practice across all cardiac and vascular care settings.
- Supports expansion and optimization of APP practice models to improve patient access, throughput, continuity of care, and operational efficiency within the Heart & Vascular service line.
- Serves as direct manager for APPs and Lead APPs within the Heart & Vascular service line.
- Oversees APP recruitment, onboarding, credentialing, privileging, orientation, and retention initiatives.
- Directs staffing, scheduling, workforce planning, and clinical deployment across cardiovascular programs and care sites.
- Manages APP performance evaluations (annual and ongoing OPPE/FPPE), competencies, and professional development planning.
- Develops, maintains, and enforces APP policies, procedures, workflows, and best practices specific to cardiovascular care delivery.
- Resolves escalated staffing, performance, and employee relations concerns.
- Participates in budget development, resource allocation, productivity management, and fiscal oversight for APP operations within the service line.
- Attends and contributes to Heart & Vascular leadership, faculty, and operational meetings. Ensures regular communication forums for APPs across the cardiovascular service line.
- Develops and monitors service line goals, productivity standards, patient access metrics, and quality outcomes.
- Maintains active clinical practice within the Heart & Vascular service line to support clinical competency and model evidence-based cardiovascular care.
- Completes and documents accurate histories and physical examinations for cardiovascular patients.
- Conducts comprehensive and episodic cardiovascular assessments and develops patient care plans.
- Orders, interprets, and manages diagnostic testing, therapies, and treatment plans within scope of practice.
- Prescribes medications, including controlled substances, as delegated and appropriate within scope of practice.
- Participates in inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular consultations and care coordination.
- Provides accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care transitions and specialty referrals.
- Serves as a liaison between APPs, physicians, nursing, care management, and administrative leadership within the Heart & Vascular service line.
- Develops and sustains an environment that promotes excellence in APP practice, cardiovascular care delivery, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Facilitates APP engagement, mentorship, satisfaction, and retention initiatives.
- Participates in strategic planning efforts to align APP workforce contributions with Heart & Vascular and organizational goals.
- Evaluates and evolves APP staffing and care delivery models to optimize patient outcomes, provider efficiency, and operational performance.
- Supports leadership development and succession planning among APP team members.
- Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of APP workforce models and implements operational improvements as needed.
- Develops, oversees, and promotes continued learning and professional growth among APP staff within the Heart & Vascular service line.
- Coordinates APP student rotations, cardiovascular APP fellowship/residency opportunities, and academic partnerships.
- Encourages continuing education, specialty certification maintenance, and lifelong learning among APPs.
- Promotes participation in cardiovascular research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Pursues ongoing professional development to remain current on trends, innovations, and best practices in cardiovascular medicine and APP leadership.
- Minimum of five years of Advanced Practice Provider experience in Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, or Interventional Radiology required.
- At least 3 years of management experience required.
- APRN candidates must possess Acute Care Certification.
- This role reports directly to the Director of Advanced Practice Providers and has an indirect reporting relationship to the Heart & Vascular Service Line Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
- Demonstrated expertise in cardiovascular patient care, APP practice management, and interdisciplinary collaboration strongly preferred.
Nurse Practitioner:
- Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
- Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position
- Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP)
- CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications
- Physician Assistant:
- Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
- Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program
- Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
- CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications
