Job Summary:

Promotes the safety of patient as a member of the surgical team. Is responsible for assisting with operative procedures and patient care according to department policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists department leader with the delegation of assignments, scheduling and staff training.  Provides feedback during performance review process.  Ensures surgery preference cards are completed accurately.
  • Anticipates and plans routine care for the patient based on basic knowledge of surgical cases and anticipates some unexpected patient and surgeon needs.
  • Assists surgical cases by running the table and assisting the surgeon on all routine and basic surgery cases utilizing the principles of surgical asepsis, infection control, universal precautions and life safety.
  • Maintains an orderly and organized work environment and takes responsibility for the maintenance and care of all equipment.
  • Demonstrates prioritization skills, implements basic problem solving skills and performs in a coordinated manner when delivering care in high stress environments.
  • Demonstrates the operation and function of instrumentation and equipment for routine cases performed in surgery.
  • Maintains instrument sets, demonstrating understanding of appropriate sterilization methods and shares knowledge with less experienced staff on cases, equipment and instrumentation.
  • Provides orientation, education and training to team members as required.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of a technical program for operating room technicians

  • Constant use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.

Work in a procedural, team-driven environment with a predictable schedule and hands-on clinical focus, supporting outpatient vascular and interventional procedures - not dialysis. Under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager or Chief Radiology Technologist, performs scrub and circulating duties during interventional procedures according to USV/FMS policies and procedures. Assists with preparation of procedure room, inventory of supplies and stocking of supplies in the procedure room and stock room. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with the maintenance and setting up of the procedure room in compliance with FMCNA/USV policies and procedures and state and federal regulations. Stocks procedure room and procedure trays with all needed supplies and interventional equipment prior to procedure. Cleans the procedure room including the equipment and machinery post procedure. May assist with preparing the patient for the surgical procedure by positioning, shaving and prepping. Performs additional tasks as designated by Physician, practicing in compliance with state regulations Prepares and administers medications within the scope of practice and state regulations Performs patient transfers and positioning of patients and transports patient to and from procedure room.
