The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Orthopedics has an exciting opportunity for a full time Medical Assistant 2 to work in Miami, FL.
The Medical Assistant 2 performs multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The Medical Assistant 2 assists patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The Medical Assistant 2 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.


The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 2 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The incumbent adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The role provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The Medical Assistant 2 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.

6. Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines to include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
7. Performs professionally within their clinical scope of practice skills utilizing State, Federal, and University of Miami’s standards, guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations. Incorporates protocols and standards of care into daily practice.
8. Accepts and provides focused constructive feedback and guidance with loving kindness in a manner that provides growth and maintains self-esteem.
9. Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information.
10. Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed.
11. Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physician’s care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
12. Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient’s medical record.
13. Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
14. Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.
15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions
1. Perform a preliminary screening of patients for Orthopedic surgeons, APRN’s and PA’s by performing vitals including weight, height and BMI. Verifying patients’ history and updating pharmacy preference in UChart.  Rooming patients from exam rooms to radiology and fitting for DME’s and making sure labels are placed on patients vouchers for DME’s. Preparing injectable medications for Orthopedic faculty. Removing stitches for post operative patients. Making sure that exam rooms are fully stocked and organizing DME rooms. Translating for orthopedic faculty when needed.
2. Also, launch patient reported outcome survey, recover coach, RAPT survey for Joints patients.
3. Assists with outpatient injection procedures and authorization process.

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS
    High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license
    Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required

    BLS certification and Certified Medical Assistant Certification

    • CMA- Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)®

    • RMA- Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT)

    • CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- National Healthcare Association (NHA)

    • NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NHA - NCCT)

    • NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)

    Additional certification:

    • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers

    • HIV/AIDS CEU Certification for Healthcare Providers

    Description Job Summary Assists in examinations and treatment of patient's care under the direction of the physician and/or clinician. Supports patient care management by performing various administrative functions. Job Specific Duties Answers telephones, routes calls, takes, and relays accurate phone messages. If applicable, prepares and administers medications/immunizations to patients as directed by provider. Communicates all significant changes in patient conditions or behavior to clinicians and physicians. Ensures all medical record/patient charts contains necessary documentation for medical appointments. Completes charting, collects, and distributes medical record documents related to patient.
