The House Manager is responsible for supporting the operations and patient care services of the organization. The House Manager utilizes effective leadership skills to support staff, solve problems, and make appropriate decisions. They provide immediate administrative and clinical leadership to unit staff and ancillary departments and coordinates hospital-wide activities as necessary to resolve problem situations as they arise and often in the absence of unit leaders. Works independently as well as with others. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

For South Haven only: As of Dec. 1, 2019, a BSN in required upon hire for this position.  Any employee hired before this date is required to have an active nursing license and 3-5 years of progressively more responsible experience in the hospital l or elsewhere. 

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the state of Michigan.  *Bronson South Haven Hospital- BCLS required upon hire. Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire. Hospital Incident Command courses IS-100.HCb, IS-200HCb, IS-200.HCa and IS-700.a, and NIH Stroke certification to be completed within 6 months of hire.*

Communicates with Bronson First to coordinate all regional transfers. • Collaborates with physicians and Rapid Response to ensure optimal patient placement. • Monitors hospital capacity. Manages through-put to avoid delays in patient placement. Implements hospital surg plan as needed. Provides hospital wide communication regarding level of occupancy. Collaborates with ER physicians and ER charge nurse when hospital is at capacity. • Leads 0400/1600 Bed Planning Meetings. Works with staffing office to ensure appropriate placement of available staff. Assigns or reassigns staff as appropriate to maintain safe, competent levels of care in all areas, including placement of sitters. • Coordinates communication with outside organizations or their representatives, including other health care facilities, law enforcement agencies and the media. Relays appropriate information according to established policies. Involves public relations in all media calls. • Manages the initial response in the event of a disaster, crisis or emergency situation. Notifies incident commander. Coordinates all activities until incident commander arrives. Communicates with outside organizations or their representatives, including information regarding bed availability. • Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures, including Substance Abuse Policy. Ensures appropriate testing when reasonable suspicion for abuse exists. • Answers all calls for Employee Incident Hot Line after hours, on weekends and holidays. Provides initial triage and directs employee to ER as appropriate. Documents all calls on the Employee Injury & Illness Incident Report. Collaborates with ER physician to initiate prophylactic treatment of employees in the event of exposure to communicable diseases. • Identifies bed bugs in conjunction with EVS manager or designee. Coordinates notification of EVS management, facilities and Griffin Pest Control. Ensures room is properly sealed post discharge. • Conducts regular rounds on all hospital departments and units. Monitors unit activity, level of patient care and assists with problem resolution. Acts as mentor to staff and advocate to patients. • Oversees availability of supplies and equipment necessary for patient care. Provides direction during shortages. Provides direction during computer and monitoring downtime.

For Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital:

The House Manager is responsible for completing the Word day CBL –“Swing beds”. This is an annual CBL that describes the difference in a swing bed patient versus an in-patient or observation patient. The House Manager will understand the documentation differences and the specific care required for each individual swing bed patient.

This education is assumed by the Recipient Rights Offer. The Office of Recipient Rights shall do all of the following: Provide or coordinate the protection of recipient rights for all directly operated or contracted services. Ensure that recipients, parents of minor recipients, and guardians or other legal representatives have access to The Rights Booklet of their rights guaranteed by the Michigan Mental Health Code and are notified of those rights in an understandable manner, both at the time services are initiated and periodically during the time services are provided to the recipient. Ensure that the telephone number and address of the Office of Recipient Rights and the name of Rights Advisor are conspicuously posted in all service sites. Maintain a record system for all reports of apparent or suspected rights violations received including a mechanism for logging in all complaints and a mechanism for secure storage of all investigative documents as evidence. Ensure that each service site is visited with the frequency necessary for protection of rights but in no case less than annually. Ensure that all individuals employed by BBC Fieldstone site receive training related to recipient rights protection before or within 30 days after being employed. Review the recipient rights policies and the rights system of each provider of mental health services under contract with BBC to ensure that the rights protection system of each provider is in compliance with the Michigan Mental Health Code and is of a uniformly high standard. Serve as consultant to Chief Executive Officer or his or her designee, RiskManagement Department, and other directors and to the associates of BBC in matters related to recipient rights. Ensure that all reports of apparent or suspected violations of rights within Fieldstone Center are investigated in accordance with section 330.1778 of the Michigan Mental Health Code. The policy requires that the rights office must conduct investigations in a manner that does not violate employee rights. Those reports that do not warrant investigation are intervened upon and recorded in accordance with subdivision (d) of the Michigan Mental Health Code. Semiannually provide summary complaint data consistent with the annual report required by the Code, together with a summary of remedial action taken on substantiated complaints by category, to the State of Michigan and to the Recipient Rights Advisory Committee. The Recipient Rights Officer and Advisors will have the education, training, and experience to fulfill the responsibilities of the Office of Recipient Rights. The Recipient Rights Officer and Advisors will receive training in recipient rights protection. Coordinate meetings and activities of the Recipient Rights Advisory Committee and be the holder of the record of this committee. Serve as advocate to all recipients and their families. Provide recipients assistance to make contact with other advocacy groups, as needed. Collaborate with Community Mental Health when appropriate. The Recipient Rights Officer shall submit to the governing board of BHG and to the State of Michigan Office of Recipient Rights an annual report prepared by the Office of Recipient Rights on the current status of recipient rights at Fieldstone Site and a review of the operations of the Office of Recipient Rights. The report shall be submitted no later than December 30, of each year for the preceding fiscal year or period specified in contract. The annual report shall include, at a minimum, all of the following: A) Summary data by category regarding the rights of recipients receiving services from Bronson Health Services-Fieldstone Site BBC including complaints received, the number of reports filed, and the number of reports investigated by the Office of Recipient Rights. B) The number of substantiated rights violations by category. C) The remedial actions taken on substantiated rights violations by category. D) Training received by associates of the Office of Recipient Rights. E) Training provided by the Office of Recipient Rights. Desired outcomes established for the Office of Recipient Rights and progress toward these outcomes. G) Recommendations to the BHG governing board.
