Oregon City's dramatic bluff geography and Willamette River setting give it a physical character that is hard to replicate anywhere else in the Portland metro. The End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center tells the story of the hundreds of thousands of pioneers who completed their 2,000-mile journey here, and it remains one of the most compelling historical sites in the Pacific Northwest. The city's upper and lower elevations are connected by the historic Municipal Elevator, a freestanding outdoor lift that is one of only four of its kind in the world. The Clackamas River corridor to the east provides excellent fishing and river recreation, and the nearby Molalla River State Park gives residents quiet waterside access without the crowds of more heavily visited areas.
