PeaceHealth is seeking a CNA - Oncology for a Full Time, 0.90 FTE, Night position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $22.35 – $33.16. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Job Summary

Assists professional nursing personnel in providing quality, compassionate patient care by performing tasks involving direct and indirect patient care, using skills and knowledge in basic nursing assistant procedures and techniques under direction and supervision of a registered nurse.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in providing direct patient care as delegated by the Registered Nurse within the scope of the CNA licensure.
  • Perform basic technical skills which may include: CPR; taking and recording vital signs; measuring and recording fluid intake/output; applying dressings; recognizing and reporting signs and symptoms of common diseases or conditions; administering treatments as directed by a physician or nurse.
  • Assist patient with personal care which may include: bathing; mouth and skin care; grooming and dressing; toileting assistance; eating and hydration.
  • Provide patients with help walking, exercising, and moving in and out of bed.
  • Maintain unit supplies by stocking patient rooms and supply areas to meet patient care needs.
  • Documents relevant patient care data
  • May provide clerical support to the unit; doing order entry, chart processing, answering telephones, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: experience in an acute care facility and
  • Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

  • CNAs may be able to work in another nursing unit within Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend provided that they have completed the necessary CareConnect training, unit specific competencies and have been deemed competent by a leader of the unit. Including but not limited to the unit manager, assistant nurse manager or clinical nurse educator they are floating to.

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

General Purpose The primary purpose of your job position is to provide each of your assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and as may be directed by your supervisors. Essential Duties • Use the wristband or photo card file to identify residents before administering treatments, serving meals, etc., as necessary. • Use only authorized abbreviations established by this facility when recording information. • Report all changes in the resident’s condition to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse as soon as practical. • Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc., in an informative, descriptive manner. • Report all accidents and incidents you observe on the shift that they occur. • Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator. • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility’s information system. • Perform only those nursing care procedures that you have been trained to do. • Ensure that the resident’s room is ready for receiving the resident (i.e., bed made, name tags up, admission kit available, etc.). • Greet residents and escort them to their room. • Introduce resident to his/her roommate, if any, and other residents and personnel as appropriate. • Make resident comfortable. • Inventory and mark the resident’s personal possessions as instructed. • Store resident’s clothing. • Assist residents with packing their personal possessions when they are being transferred to a new room, or when being discharged. • Transport residents to new rooms or to the receiving area. • Assist with loading/unloading residents’ to/from vehicles as necessary. • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift. • Meet with your shift’s nursing personnel, on a regularly scheduled basis, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services. • Report all complaints and grievances made by the resident. • Participate in and receive the nursing report as instructed. • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids. • Make beds as instructed. • Put extra covers on beds as requested. • Measure and record temperatures, pulses, and respirations (TPRs) of residents, as instructed. Weigh and measure residents as instructed. • Ensure that residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently. • Answer resident calls promptly. • Check residents routinely to ensure that their personal care needs are being met. • Assist residents with identifying food arrangements (i.e., informing resident with sight problem of foods that are on his/her tray, where it is located, if it is hot/cold, etc.). • Record the resident’s food/fluid intake. Report changes in the resident’s eating habits to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse. • Keep residents’ water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water (on each shift), and within easy reach of the resident. • Perform after meal care (i.e., remove trays, clean resident’s hands, face, clothing, etc.). • Participate in and receive the nursing report upon reporting for duty. • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with our established policies and procedures, and as instructed by your supervisors. • Follow work assignments, and/or work schedules in completing and performing your assigned tasks. • Cooperate with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other facility personnel to ensure that nursing services can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents. • Notify the facility when you will be late or absent from work. • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents. • Assist residents with daily functions (dental and mouth care, bath functions, combing of hair, dressing and undressing as necessary). • Keep residents dry (change gown, clothing and linens, when it becomes wet or soiled). • Assist residents in preparing for medical tests (i.e., lab work, x-ray, therapy, dental, etc.). • Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc. • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed. • Assist in preparing the resident for a physical examination. • Check each resident routinely to ensure that his/her personal care needs are being met in accordance with his/her wishes. • Observe and report the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent decubitus ulcers (bedsores). • Report injuries of an unknown source, including skin tears. • Observe disoriented and comatose residents. Record and report data as instructed • Perform special treatments as instructed. • Immediately notify the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of any resident leaving/missing from the facility. • Use only the equipment you have been trained to use. • Report defective equipment to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information. • Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property. • Honor the resident’s refusal of treatment request. Report such requests to your supervisor. Supervisory Requirements This position has no supervisor responsibilities Qualification Education and/or Experience Must possess, as a minimum, an 10th grade education Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. On an Average Day You Will: (includes but not limited to) Perform personal care needs after given a patient's assignment and attend to his/her requests promptly; if unable to perform a certain task, report to the Case Manager immediately Provide patient and family with positive communication techniques, within realm of ethical and respectful care, including confidentiality Meet safety needs of patient and use equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, O2 etc.) Provide personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos and changing bed linen as often as assigned Assist in dressing and undressing patients, as assigned Plan and prepare nutritious meals, including shopping, as assigned Assist in feeding the patient, as assigned Take and record oral, rectal and auxiliary temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure when ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominence Assess and report on patient's condition and significant changes to the Case Manager; also, being aware of the caregiver or other individuals living with the patient and interpersonal issues Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist Provide normal range of motion and transfers/positioning, as directed Assist with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations, such as “reminders” Offer and assist with bedpan and urinal aid, as assigned Aid with light laundry needs if necessary Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as an extensional therapy service, as ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency Provide respite for patient's family/caregiver when on-site, as appropriate Maintain patient's living area is clean and orderly, as assigned Adhere to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct Participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities Respect patient and family/caregiver environment and patient's personal needs All other duties as assigned Requirements: Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant ( applicable for all States, additional requirements for California residents, see below). CALIFORNIA REGULATION : Must be a CNA in good standing AND must have a current Home Health Aide (HHA) certification in good standing in the State of California.
