South Pointe Hospital’s 6 Medical Unit is a fast-paced unit that cares for patients with a variety of medical conditions and diseases, such pneumonia, congestive heart failure, infectious disease, asthma, and COPD exacerbation, and is very experienced in ventilator management for chronic ventilator patients.

As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers with providing exceptional care to patients from initial introduction to discharge. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in-person courses to enhance your skills.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs. Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach. Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability). Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk. Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently. Document in patients’ medical records Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program) Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross New grad or less than one year RN work experience or if experience RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one-year current acute direct patient care RN experience Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) Physical Requirements: Full range of body motion for handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination Standing and walking for extended periods of time Corrected vision and hearing to normal range Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects Physical Demand requirements in excess of those for Light Work Personal Protective Equipment: Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures The policy of Cleveland Clinic Health System and its system hospitals (Cleveland Clinic Health System) is to provide equal opportunity to all of our caregivers and applicants for employment in our drug free environment.
