What you'll do

The Licensed Practical NurseProcedure Room provides direct and indirect patient care, under the supervision of the department manager and the clinical direction of the Registered Professional Nurse, Physician or Surgical PA, provides technical and clinical support to the team in the procedure room. The LPN functions as part of the interdisciplinary health care team. The LPN serves as a resource for other team members and is active in the orientation of new staff. This individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to a wide range of ages, including obtaining patient status and interpreting information needed to identify patient requirements. In addition, the LPN Procedure Room Nurse acts as support to the Nursing Team Leader by updating supply charges, procedure room records, cross coverage and working on quality assurance projects.

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of all surgical/clinical procedures. Acts as support to Surgeons consistently and accurately. Utilizes knowledge of technical and nursing responsibilities.
  • Exhibits behaviors, attitude and competencies commensurate with nursing practice standards and the LPN nurse practice act. Accepts responsibility for own nursing practice. Recognizes legal implications of own actions, based on periodic review by supervisor.
  • Adheres to universal protocol 100% of the time and maintains accurate documentation of same.
  • Mixes labels and handles medications used on the sterile field, under the supervision of the MD, RN, or PA without variance 100% of the time as evidenced by provider review.
  • Maintains high degree of attentiveness to the sterile field 100% of the time based on periodic supervisor review and random feedback from providers. Adheres to dress code for procedure room.
  • Selects all instruments and equipment necessary for procedure and maintains proper function of equipment and instruments 100% of time by inspecting at each use and sending out for necessary repairs. This shall be reviewed periodically by supervisor and random feedback by providers. There will be no more than 2 exceptions per year.
  • Accepts responsibility for review and maintenance of adequate stock and the timely ordering of specialty items for use at scheduled cases, including specialty equipment, as indicated by MD feedback, with no more than 2 exceptions per year.
  • Assist surgeons, demonstrating manual dexterity. Retracts, sponges, suctions and cuts sutures, assists in positioning patients. Maintains correct counts and provides and/or applies necessary dressings as indicated by M.D. feedback with no more than 3 exceptions per year.
  • Cleans and readies room for next case efficiently to minimize turnaround time. Starts a case within no more than 15 minutes variance of scheduled time 90-95% of the time as noted by periodic review, by supervisor, of records. (Excepting provider related delay)
  • Differentiates sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment and follows departmental policy on high level disinfectant as measured by supervisory observation.
  • Identifies need for scope repair and initiates repair process within 1-2 hours of identification of need for repair as measured by supervisory observation.
  • Ensures room is stocked with appropriate equipment, supplies and linen at the end of each procedure day with no more than 2-3 exceptions per year as measured by supervisory observation and peer feedback.
  • Provides direct and indirect nursing care individualized to the patient’s needs.
  • Collects, records, evaluates relevant patient health data accurately, with no more than 3-5 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
  • Evaluates health data to identify patient problems, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation.
  • Implements and documents specified interventions with no more than 3-5 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation
  • Identifies and reports deviations from expected patient outcomes, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation.
  • Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by direct supervisory observation and random supervisory chart review.
  • Assists in daily operational and patient flow activities as required
  • Records completely and accurately any pertinent Point of Service testing. Does so on each test performed as reviewed by the laboratory personnel in their monthly reports.
  • Performs and documents Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures, 100% of the time, as observed by supervisor and POC staff.
  • Cleans procedure room within 5 minutes of patient departure from room with no more than 3-4 exceptions per year as measured by supervisory observation
  • Performs manual portion of scope cleaning in 6-10 minutes as measured by supervisory observation.
  • Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient’s autonomy, dignity and rights.
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity, 100% of the time, as measured by no significant, substantiated patient or peer complaints received by the manager/supervisor.
  • Maintain adherence to HIPAA standards as noted by random observation by supervisor.
  • Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures as measured by random supervisory chart review
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
  • Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy by providing documented evidence of completion to supervisor.
  • Assumes accountability and responsibility for identifying own learning needs, maintaining competency in nursing practice and keeping up with new knowledge and advances in practice.
  • Practices within the New York State defined LPN scope of practice 100% of the time, as determined by co-worker feedback and direct supervisory observation.
  • Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed

What we need from you

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program, required

Experience:

  • Minimum one year experience as an Licensed Practical Nurse, required
    • a new Licensed Practical Nurse with extensive experience as a tech in a procedure room or operating room may be substituted

Licensure/Certificates:

  • Current NYS licensure as a LPN or valid interim permit, required
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 180 days of hire date, required

Bonus Amount:

  • RN (excluding management) sign-on bonuses are awarded in the amount of $20,000 for full time
  • LPN sign on bonuses are awarded in the amount of $10,000 for full time

Pay Transparency

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
