Under general direction of nursing leadership, the Manager RN position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing of the operations and staff of the respective department. This position has

24-hour responsibility and accountability for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating nursing care to ensure optimal patient health outcomes in their respective department. This position links nursing leadership with nursing care through the application of organizational and nursing service policies, procedures, and care delivery model.

The Manager RN uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements to guide leadership and practice.

The Manager RN attains knowledge and competence reflective of current nursing practice; promotes innovation and futuristic thinking by incorporating evidence based practice and research findings.

Has responsibility for the Surgical Department. Is competent to assure provision of effective, high quality patient care, which includes coordinating clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery, managing surgery and personnel schedule, development of personnel, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards.

Responsibilities

40%)* Coordination of Operating Room, PACU, Ambulatory Surgery and pain procedures.

(30%)* Responsible for supervising care of patients in preoperative, perioperative, and post-operative phases.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for maintenance of quality monitors in OR with strict observance of medical and surgical

asepsis.

Responsible for monitors such as refrigerator temperature logs, eye wash station check, crash cart checks, and maintaining medication inventory.

Participates in Performance Improvement activities.

Responsible for observance of standard universal precautions for staff.

Insures that hospital policies are followed regarding completion of history and physical, lab work, consents, consultations and assistants.

Schedules surgeries and procedures according to surgeon and pain specialist designated privileges.

Provides administration with monthly statistics of census, PI activities, chart review activities, and meeting minutes.

Maintains records of preventative maintenance of anesthesia equipment, autoclaves, and appropriate OR

Pain procedure equipment.

Responds appropriately to variances in equipment.

Responsible for monitoring and scheduling surgery, monitoring distribution of the surgery schedule. Responsible for scheduling personnel, including daily and call schedules for all levels of staff

Will be responsible to fill in as OR staff member, and take call as needed.

Responsible for reviewing and updating policies and procedures in collaboration with Radiology/Cardiology Manager, Administration and/or Infection Control Manager in accordance with current standards.

Conducts and maintains annual evaluations. Conducts staff competency reviews.

Conducts staff meetings and in-services and maintains documentation of competency reviews and meeting attendance.

Responsible for new employee orientation.

Responsible for ordering supplies and equipment as needed and planning for capital equipment.

Responsible to schedule equipment maintenance and repairs and monitor equipment for trends of breakage and recommendations for new.

Responsible to collaborate with Radiology/Cardiology manager and Pain Clinic Supervisor to schedule and support Pain Procedures.

Oversees sterile processing department in conjunction with infection control nurse to ensure policies are adhered to and environment is maintained in a clean/safe manner.

Also orients new personnel and schedules CS aides, participates in budgetary considerations for central sterile, and evaluates sterile processing personnel. Responsible for performing and/or delegating charge posting.

Ensures that all staff attend annually Net Learning BLS training ACLS training for RN’s. Competent to function in the OR staff nursing role, recovery nurse role, ambulatory surgery nurse and Pain Procedure staff role fulfilling each area of duties.

Competent to assess the physiological health status of patients of all age groups. Assessment is age specific (pediatric, adult, and geriatric).

Verifies operative procedure/operative site. Communicates variances to CRNA/physician prior to surgery.

Complete s time-out on all procedures and ensures OR and Pain Procedure staff meet this standard.

Must attend 75% of all nursing, management, and inservice meetings.

Summary The RN Case Manager plays a pivotal role in maintaining the quality of care patients receive during medical centerization and post discharge while ensuring the organization is fully reimbursed. Education, Experience, And Training Knowledge of critical care nursing as normally acquired through 2 years of experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting. Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Physical/Mental Requirements And Typical Working Conditions Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes wearing lead and latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
