About the Role
The First Assistant RN will function as the primary assistant to the physician in the operating room, working directly with the physician and patients to help deliver exemplary medical care in the hospital setting. This position will assist the physician in all aspects of medical practice including preoperative, intra-operative and postoperative treatment of the patient.
POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as an intra-operative surgical first assistant, while using instruments and medical devices, providing exposure, handling and cutting tissue, providing hemostasis, and suturing tissue.
- Performs postoperative patient management, in collaboration with other health care providers, in the immediate postoperative period and beyond. Participates in postoperative rounds. Writes postoperative orders and operative notes according to establishing protocols.
- Provide education for across the continuum of care from time of consultation of consultation through surgical procedure through follow up.
- All other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred.
- Current RN license, in good standing with the State licensing board.
- 3+ years of operating room experience.
- Current and valid CPR Certification.
- Current RNFA designation.
- Computer skills preferred.
