Department Overview

The Children's Clinic provides a range of services from well-child care to educational and outreach programs.  They care for children with complex medical, psychosocial problems, and acute and chronic childhood illnesses.  They also provide developmental, behavioral, nutritional assessment and guidance, and parent education.



Position Summary

The Medical Assistant role will provide professional family-centered care to infants, children, and adolescents as delegated by a provider or RN which may include the following duties:

*Escort patients to exam room and appropriately document information.
*Prepare and administer medications and injections as directed by a clinician.
*Perform and assist with procedures and treatments as directed by clinician, such as; administering hearing/vision tests, rapid strep testing, nebulizer treatments and urine catheterizations.
*Perform laboratory specimen collection and processing to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing while maintaining patient dignity, comfort and confidentiality.
*Maintain knowledge of, and comply with, all relevant laws, regulations and policies, procedures and standards.
*Fill in for lead role intermittently.

Location: Onsite

License/Certification/Registration:
*1) Completion of a MA program with a current MA certification/registration OR 2) completion of an LPN/LVN or RN program, required.
*Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, required.

Experience:
*2 years of medical assistant experience with at least one of those years at Children's Minnesota.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
*Phlebotomy and basic laboratory skills (if required by clinic site).
*Skills list based on clinic (see addendum).
*Performance review rating =/>3.
*Able/willing to float to clinics outside of primary area of expertise.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee’s scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.

Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to Supervisor. Uses equipment following policies, procedures and manufacturer directions or standards. Follows all policies, procedures, standard work, and proper techniques when providing patient care. Cleans, stocks, maintains inventory for exam, medication and supply rooms. Reports any acute problems and changes in patient's condition. Applies High reliable safety principles to all interactions. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required principle competencies as listed on the job description Non-Certified Applicants with less than six (6) months of Medical Assistant experience must have graduated from an accredited school with a clinical externship Preferred Qualifications Previous Medical Assistant experience Knowledge of medical terminology Licenses/Certifications Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below: ◦ Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association ◦ Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross ◦ Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants preferred Physical Demands Medium Work*: Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently Pay Range Pay Range: $22.04 to $30.01 per hour The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
