Job Overview

The Nurse Practitioner Fellow provides medical services to patients, ensuring appropriate and professional medical services. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides care for either their patient panel or as an extension of a current provider-patient panel that begins at an average of eight patients per day and increases by two patients each month until the NP reaches a full patient schedule of 21 patients per day. Additionally, NP Fellow participates in mentored clinics, didactic lectures on a variety of topics, specialty rotations with community providers, conferences, and professional development opportunities with other clinical leaders.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited Master’s School of Nursing program within eighteen months of the program start date.

  • Current Nurse Practitioner licensure from the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) in the State of California.

  • Family Nurse Practitioner certification from the ANCC or AANP in Family Nurse Practitioner is required. 

  • Adult, Pediatric, and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification will be considered.

  • Completed training in the diagnosis and management of common as well as some complex medical conditions.

  • Previous experience with computer-based systems required; Electronic Medical Records (EPIC) experience preferred.

  • Completion of AltaMed’s Advanced Nurse Education Workforce (ANEW) Program is preferred.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, other languages considered.

  • A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines.

Compensation

$105,000.00 - $126,000.00 annually

Nurse Practitioner

Requisition #: 50053 Status: Full-time, Exempt Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8AM – 5PM (Work hours beyond clinic hours may be required to complete tasks and documentation.) Onsite or Hybrid: Onsite position, 5 days per week POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Site Medical Director, Long Beach, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary medical care services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide primary medical care for adult patients at APLA Health at its medical clinic in Long Beach and other clinical sites as needed. Conduct histories and physical exams on patients Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients’ clinical problems and health care needs Establishes treatment plans, administers, furnishes or recommends medications Documents gathered information in medical record as required by policies and completes charting within 48 hours of a clinical encounter Provides health maintenance and preventative care according to quality evidence based standards and protocols related to contractual obligations Participates in chart review and quality assurance activities as part of APLA Health Quality Management Program Follow APLA Health PrEP and PEP protocols for qualified patients Provide medical management for transgender patients, including hormone therapy management Evaluate and treat patients presenting for sexually transmitted infection testing in accordance with protocols. Provide primary care services for HIV positive persons based on expert guidelines The NP will be expected to see 14 or more patients per full clinic day. The NP will have administrative time amounting to 10% of the work week. Minimum 1 year experience managing primary care patients preferred. Must possess a current, RN, NP Furnishing and DEA license and BLS/CPR certificate. Must be eligible to participate in Medicare, Medi-Cal, F-PACT and other federal health programs. Experience working with electronic health records required, eClinicalWorks preferred. Bilingual English-Spanish is a plus. Knowledge of: Experience with management of HIV positive persons and/or LGBTQIA+ persons preferred. Ability to: On-call duties by phone only are required.
