The Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD) is seeking a Nursing Supervisor to provide clinical and operational leadership for nursing and interdisciplinary care teams. This position is responsible for overseeing direct patient care services, supervising clinical staff, and ensuring that health services, medical care, and evidence-based practices are delivered effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.

The Nursing Supervisor supports the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical operations, staff development, quality initiatives, and patient care services. This role may provide direct patient care as needed and collaborates closely with providers, clinical leadership, and interdisciplinary team members to promote high-quality, patient-centered care.

  • Makes effective and timely recommendations regarding hiring, promotion, transfer, and disciplinary actions.
  • Makes appropriate hiring decisions in collaboration with the Assistant Director and Director, Clinical Services.
  • Develops and manages the talents, strengths, and performance of nursing, medical assistant, and social work staff, providing opportunities for employees to contribute to clinic goals and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa or ability to obtain an Iowa license by date of hire is required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of clinical practice and demonstrated skills in management and supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams by demonstrating excellent interpersonal and team leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to serve as a liaison and to collaborate with physicians, staff, patients, and other customers.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, decision making and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates effective teaching skills for staff and patient education.
  • Proficiency with computer software applications (such as Microsoft programs).

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing desired.
  • Professional certification in relevant nursing role or specialty through a nationally recognized professional nursing certification body. If not currently certified (professional certification), expectation is to achieve when employee is eligible to sit for the exam.
  • Experience in Ambulatory Care is highly desired.
  • Experience working in an academic medical center.
  • Relevant expertise and knowledge for coaching and mentoring team members to reach their highest potential.
  • Experience with development and implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) standards.
  • Membership/involvement in professional organizations.
  • Knowledge of UI and UI Health Care policies, procedures, protocols, and regulations.
