Summary : Assist in providing quality care to the robotic surgical patients. Responsible for the general maintenance of equipment, room, and supplies under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Performs scrub duties and assists in maintenance of instruments, equipment, and supplies. Demonstrates Service Excellence at all times. Other duties as assigned.
Duties:
- Actively participates in Universal Protocol and 'Time-Out', prior to skin incision
- Adheres to principles of asepsis and displays understand of aseptic technique
- Counts on all surgical procedures in accordance with policy.
- Adheres to surgical dress code.
- Ensures compliance with sterilization processes.
- Demonstrates care and handling of instruments/equipment according to manufacturing recommendations and departmental policies.
- Updates surgeon's preference cards and collaborates with surgical team on robotic services.
- Performs surgical scrub in accordance of policy and recommended standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge of robotic procedures.
- Keeps abreast of assignments and checks against informed consent
- Demonstrates knowledge of post-procedure process
- Assembles, troubleshoots, and operates various equipment. Competently assemble various devices, selecting correct size for patient
- Participates in correct patient identify, safely position patient, displays general patient safety.
- Prepares for surgical intervention by selecting appropriate supplies and equipment. Opens room, organizes and setup equipment for robotic cases. Ability to drape for procedures, initiate and perform sponge, needle, and instrument count, apply sterile dressing and maintain a sterile environment.
- Understands various sutures material and appropriate plane for use, based on site and surgeon.
- Assist surgeon with hemostasis.
- Working knowledge of infection control.
- Demonstrates competency in operating transport equipment (stretchers, beds, oxygen takes, etc.).
- Adheres to laser safety measures.
- Identifies, transfers and labels all solutions/medications on the surgical field, but does not administer medications
- Maintains certification and/or education as mandated by South Carolina law.
- Completes all Hospital and department assigned education as assigned.
- Holds retractors as directed by Surgeon.
- Sponging or suctioning operative site.
- Collaborates with CSS (SPD) to maintain instruments and specialty trays for cases.
- Oversees surgical technician’s assignments and provides direction and guidance.
- Reviews the surgical schedule and to ensure resources are available for surgical procedures.
- Seeks ways to eliminate errors, reduce turnaround times, and maintain workflow to improve customer service.
- Identifies and acts on process improvement opportunities.
- Performs and helps oversees preceptorships

Qualifications
Requirements:
Education requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technologist.
Work experience requirements: 3-5 years of experience as an OR Tech is required. Ortho services preferred.
Required licenses/ certifications/courses CST certification is required and must maintain CEUs for certification. BLS & CPR certification.
Required skills, knowledge and abilities: Works under the direct supervision of the RN.
