The Medical Assistant provides professional clinical care for patients following established standards and practices. Prepares patients during office visits and assists patients and family members before, during and after a doctor’s visit. 

  • Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during treatment/procedures, examinations, and testing of patients.
  • Prepare, restock, and sterilize examination rooms, procedure rooms, lab area and all other patient care areas per established policies and procedures.
  • Record patients' medical history, health maintenance, and chief complaint.
  • Measure, record, and document vital signs.
  • Where applicable, perform phlebotomy, injections and other specimen collection per established policies and procedures as directed by the provider.
  • Educate patients by providing information and instructions as directed by the provider.
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Sterilize medical instruments per established standards and procedures.
  • Relay messages from patients and front office staff to providers.
  • Represent the office in a professional manner.  Treat all customers, internal and external, in a courteous and cooperative manner.
  • Participate in team activities and professional development activities.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Demonstrate and embody the Women’s Care mission and core values.
  • Compliance with all HIPAA rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • (FL Only) Certified Medical Assistant preferred OR the ability to obtain the certification within the first 120 days of employment.
    • To be eligible for employment and to obtain an MA certification, you must be a graduate of a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR served in the Armed Forces as a Medical Technician with honorable discharge.
  • Current CPR and/or BLS certification preferred OR the ability to obtain the certification within 30 days of employment via Women’s Care training.
  • Experience working in OBGYN or Primary Care a plus.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections, if applicable.
  • Ability to perform dosage calculations and measurement conversions.
  • Must possess the ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of internal personnel, providers, personnel of outside organizations, and patients and their family members, both written and verbally.
  • Must possess good organizational skills, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and be able to work effectively with all levels of aforementioned groups.
  • Ability to use a computer and enter data in electronic medical records application, preferably eCW.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be dependable, reliable, and punctual.

Responsibilities Reports To: Office Manager Position Objective: The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Working under the direction of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or APRN, the Medical Assistant prepares patients for examinations, performs clinical procedures within the scope of practice, assists providers during patient visits, and supports front office operations. Essential Responsibilities: Patient Care: Welcome patients and prepare them for provider examinations by obtaining and documenting patient history, chief complaint, current medications, allergies, medical history, surgical history, family history, social history, preventive care information, and other relevant clinical information in the electronic medical record (EMR). Measure, document, and report vital signs and other clinical observations. Prepare patients and examination rooms for provider visits. Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures. Explain provider instructions, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care to patients as directed. Provide compassionate, professional service that promotes a positive patient experience. Clinical Procedures: Administer oral and injectable medications, immunizations, and treatments as directed by the provider and permitted by state regulations. Assist with wound care, dressing changes, bandaging, irrigation of eyes and ears, and other clinical procedures. Initiate and monitor IV infusions when appropriately trained and permitted by state regulations. Perform phlebotomy and prepare specimens for laboratory testing. Perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures. Conduct in-office diagnostic testing, including but not limited to: Electrocardiograms (EKGs) Vision screenings Pulse oximetry Peak flow testing Oxygen administration as ordered Inhalation treatments Spirometry Perform PT/INR testing using approved equipment (CoaguChek/Coag-Sense) and glucose testing using a glucometer. Complete laboratory quality controls and maintain required testing logs. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize reusable instruments and properly dispose of contaminated materials in accordance with infection prevention standards. Clinical Documentation & Care Coordination: Accurately document patient encounters, treatments, diagnostic results, procedures, supplies utilized, and telephone encounters within the EMR. Complete outbound and inbound patient communications, including: Appointment reminders Medication reminders Transitional Care Management (TCM) — Medicare-supported outreach within 2 days of hospital or facility discharge to reduce readmissions and support safe care transitions Preventive care outreach Support Annual Wellness Visits (AWVs) by preparing Health Risk Assessments (HRAs), updating preventive care records, and ensuring completion of required documentation. Assist in patient outreach, scheduling of preventive screenings, and documentation of completed services. Care coordination activities Maintain patient medical records in accordance with organizational policies and HIPAA requirements. Administrative & Operational Support: Professionally manage front office responsibilities, including: Answering incoming telephone calls Greeting patients Scheduling appointments Patient registration and check-in/check-out Processing referrals Prescription refill coordination Routing clinical and administrative inquiries Monitor inventory levels of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and disposable clinical items, and assist with ordering as needed.
