Overview

The RN is responsible for the delivery of safe and reliable patient care, in coordination with the healthcare team to selected Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum patients and Newborns. Select RN’s staff the OR and PACU for Cesarean births. The primary role of the RN is the execution of the nursing process in providing required care and evaluation of the care given. Responsibilities include: assessment, nursing diagnosis related to focus problem areas, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. Performance of these responsibilities requires specialized knowledge, critical thinking and skills based on principles of psychological, social, physical and biological sciences that utilize the nursing process.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Assumes primary responsibility for the plan of care for a patient or group of patients, per unit standards and nursing care required for the specified patient population.
  • Effectively delegates tasks and responsibilities to other health care team members and assumes responsibility for follow-up and collaboration.
  • Performs admission assessment process per specific department standards to include patient history, physical, and psycho-social assessment. Utilizes physical assessment data, diagnostic data (lab, radiology, diagnostic testing), pharmacological information and patient/family perceptions in formulating nursing diagnosis related to focus problem areas and identifying goals of care.
  • Assumes responsibility for developing a plan of care that is mutually established with the patient and family. Each patient is treated as an individual, with their identified goals and expectations reviewed each shift to verify priorities.
  • Implements the plan of care according to current standards of nursing practice, evidence-based practice, and hospital protocol/procedures.
  • Integrates multidisciplinary approach to maintain comfort, support human functions and responses, and maintain an environment conductive to safety and well-being. Implements measures to promote a safe environment.
  • Partners with healthcare team to achieve the patient care outcomes and goals of care.
  • Administers medications and nursing treatments within scope of practice.
  • Incorporates St. Luke’s Comfort/C.A.R.E. Professional Practice Model in their daily nursing care.

Patient Education

  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
  • Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
  • Integrates patient/family teaching throughout the hospitalization, including the plan and goals of care, pre- and post-operative procedures, diagnostic procedures, and discharge teaching.
  • Integrates preventative health maintenance into the education plan.

Leadership and Professional Development

  • Assists in the orientation of new associates by acting as a resource and mentor to associates. Collaborates with unit leadership, as appropriate. Serves in preceptor role, as appropriate.
  • Participates in the education experiences of students and/or RN interns.
  • Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
  • Utilizes evidenced based models of learning.
  • Participates in department and hospital shared governance infrastructure and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program
  • Possess current RN licensure in the State of Iowa or compact state

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required to perform basic/advanced nursing procedures in the administration of medication therapy and the operation of specialized equipment

The Integrated Call Center is seeking a Staff Nurse at 90% time. The Staff Nurse provides support via telephone and electronic communication forums to UI Healthcare patients, referring entities and business partners. Nurses within the Integrated Call Center utilize the nursing process to provide education and care for individual patients or defined patient populations via the telephone. Telehealth nursing practice involves providing guidance to clients who call regarding health problems or symptoms which concern them. Staff Nurse - Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (GI Malignancy) (100%)

** Sign-on incentive: Qualified candidates are eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $12,500** University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking 100% Staff Nurse to work for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center with the GI Malignancy team. Duties To Include Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations. Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings. Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response. Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan. Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care. Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions. Percent of Time: 100% Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-10 hour shifts available! Required to work 2 extended shifts once every 4 weeks. No Nights, no holidays, no weekends. Education An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required. Required Qualifications Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions. General computer skills are required. Must be able to work well in a team is a valuable skill. Desired Qualifications Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired. If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable. Oncology experience desired. Previous experience with EPIC preferred.
