The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APRN also examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care.

Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.
Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities 5. Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.
Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB SUMMARY
The Pediatric APRN provides comprehensive care to pediatric neurology patients, including patient assessments, diagnosis and treatment planning, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, patient and family education, care coordination, clinical documentation, billing, and completion of medical forms. Participates in quality improvement initiatives and performs other duties as assigned by the Division Chief.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS
Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations for new and follow-up pediatric neurology patients.
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage pediatric patients with neurological conditions in collaboration with supervising physicians.
Order, interpret, and follow up on appropriate laboratory tests, imaging, and other diagnostic studies.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication management, referrals, and follow-up care.
Provide patient and family education regarding neurological conditions, treatment plans, medications, and community resources.
Counsel patients and families on disease management, care coordination, and available support services.
Perform approved clinical procedures within scope of practice and competency, including developmental and behavioral assessments such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), as applicable.
Coordinate multidisciplinary care, including referrals, discharge planning, durable medical equipment (DME), prior authorizations, and other care coordination activities.
Complete medical documentation, disability forms, school forms, insurance prior authorizations, FMLA paperwork, and other required clinical documentation.
Document patient encounters, complete coding and billing, and submit charges in a timely manner in accordance with departmental and institutional policies.
Respond to urgent clinical issues and patient concerns as appropriate.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, departmental meetings, and other clinical activities as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Pediatric Neurology Division Chief.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master's degree in relevant field required
Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida APRN license required
Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements
Experience:
Minimum one year of experience.
