Medical Assistants (MA) in the medical office setting supports providers by delivering direct and indirect patient care in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner. The MA may assist with clinical procedures, maintains accurate documentation, and provides administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations. The MA functions within their defined scope of practice (based on office type clinic/HOD), under supervision, and in alignment with Mercy's mission and standards of care.

Monday thru Thursday 7:30-430 and Friday 730-1230.

What You'll Do

Patient Care & Clinical Support

• Welcome and room patients while creating a positive patient experience.
• Obtain and document vital signs.
• Complete Advanced Standard Rooming activities (Primary Care clinics only).
• Collect and update patient medical and medication histories.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during procedures.
• Perform basic diagnostic testing, including:
  • Urine dipsticks
  • Blood glucose testing
  • EKGs
  • Other approved tests as competency allows
• Document patient care accurately and promptly within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Reinforce patient education provided by physicians or nursing staff.

Administrative & Office Support

• Schedule diagnostic testing, specialist referrals, and follow-up appointments.
• Assist with front office operations, including:
  • Answering phones
  • Patient check-in and check-out
  • Managing faxes and scanned documents
• Maintain accurate patient records and support efficient office workflows.

Clinic Operations & Team Collaboration

• Ensure exam rooms are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
• Participate in staff meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
• Follow all infection prevention, safety, regulatory, and compliance standards.
• Support Mercy's mission by providing patient-centered care with professionalism and compassion.
• Perform additional duties within the Medical Assistant scope of practice based on clinic needs and state regulations.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

✅ High School Diploma or equivalent

✅ Ability to successfully complete MA Clinic Academy Training upon hire

Hospital Outpatient Department (HOD) Requirement

✅ Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Preferred Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program

Experience

• One year of experience in an outpatient, ambulatory, or physician office setting

Additional Preferred Requirement for Non-HOD Clinics

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Physical Requirements

• Ability to regularly push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
• Ability to bend, kneel, reach, grip, twist, and squat while performing job duties
