Cleveland Clinic is seeking experienced APRNs and PAs with a background in Emergency Medicine to join our team in the West Submarket. The selected candidate will have a primary assignment at one of our West Submarket Emergency Departments and may be asked to float to other locations as needed.

For Nurse Practitioners, this position requires prior experience practicing as an NP in Emergency Medicine, along with current Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) certification.

A sign-on bonus is currently available for eligible candidates with at least three years of Emergency Medicine experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.

Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider who provides primary and/or specialty care in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions in collaboration with the health care team in accordance with certification and licensure. Practice emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Responsible for dissemination of knowledge through instructing, leading and developing educational programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan. Works in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Performs and interprets common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
  • Performs routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
  • May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license through applicable state board and Cleveland Clinic policies.
  • Educates patients and answers questions regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards.
  • Participates in medical team rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care.
  • Refers patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment.
  • Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary.
  • Participates in quality monitoring thru the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis to assure quality care.
  • Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
  • Supports professional development of the health care team.
  • Promotes translation of evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research.
  • May conduct research studies. May assists in data collection and analysis.
  • May serve as clinical preceptor for students. May onboard new caregivers.

Education:

  • Graduate of an A.R.C. approved Physician Assistant Program.
  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree obtained from a program recognized by their practicing states Licensing Board.

Languages:

  • Oral and written communication in English

Certifications:

  • Certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA or successor organization recognized by their practicing states Licensing Board.
  • License to practice and prescribe issued by their practicing states Licensing Board.
  • Current DEA License or DEA designee as required by NCQA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP); or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) American Heart Association may be required based upon work setting.

  • Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with requirements set forth by the State Board of Nursing in applicable states.

Preferred APP Experience: One year of pediatric emergency medicine/ urgent care, pediatric subspecialty experience with inpatient pediatric care or pediatric critical care is preferred. Degree of Supervision Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day. Job Duties: Provides direct care to patients through the following activities: Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiologic, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief: lumbar puncture incision and drainage laceration repair splint placement nursemaid's and other joint reduction foreign body removal IV placement Initiates referrals to other health care provides, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician Documents for direct care provided Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an APRN or PA student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law Participates in clinical trials sponsored by a variety of external and internal sources. May design and run studies where appropriate. Collects data for applicable databases. Assist when needed with communications and applications to the IRB. Assess and provide educational instruction and material to meet the learning needs of patients, family members and other health care providers. Communicates advance knowledge and skills to other health professionals and the community. Participates in supervision of medical students and house staff during clinical community and practicum. Assists in coordinating learning experience. Serves as an instructor. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.
