The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute’s (OSUCCC-James) mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in their own plan of care, and reducing the length of hospitalization, the staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care.
Position Summary
The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and their family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model.
Required Qualifications
Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program required. Current Ohio license or interim permit.
*Experience in relevant care setting preferred.
Additional Information:
The Apheresis Unit provides services to both inpatients and outpatients. The inpatients are primarily adults with rare services to adolescents and geriatrics. The clinical condition and complexity of the patients’ needs vary depending on diagnosis, age and stage of disease process. Services provided are plasma exchange, leukocyte reduction, donor lymphocyte collection, platelet reduction, peripheral blood stem cell collection, red blood cell exchange/depletion, extracorporeal photopheresis, and Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) Apheresis, and other approved protocols and approved medical therapies involving apheresis. In addition, therapeutic phlebotomy is offered.
The patient’s primary physician orders these procedures, and the department of Pathology is clinically consulted to perform the procedure.
Apheresis is a consulting service; therefore, admissions and discharges are not generated from this unit. The most frequent diagnosis treated include, but are not limited to: autologous and allogeneic mononuclear cell and peripheral blood stem cell collection for donor/patients, Guillain Barre Syndrome, Myasthenia Gravis, Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, Cold Agglutinin Disease, Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, Glomerulonephritis, vasculitis, transplant organ rejection, Sickle Cell Anemia, thrombocytosis, Graft versus Host Disease, leukemia, Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma, familial hypercholesterolemia, and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).
