ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients. 

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act. 

  • Performs assessments, planning, intervention and evaluation of care. 

  • Documents according to standards of care. 

  • Develops, initiates and executes a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or clinic policy including patient and family instruction. 

  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance. 

  • Utilizes clinical expertise & guidance to other units/departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care. 

  • Utilizes critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command. 

  • Participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities and decisions and peer review process. 

  • Offers ideas and/or solutions to practice issues. 

  • Uses innovative methods and intuitive skills to develop and implement plans of care. 

  • Provides innovative ways to educate patient/families. 

  • Initiates interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the patient/family educational  needs. 

  • Actively participates in mentoring and precepting new partners to the organization. 

  • Positively influences the professional and organizational environments and shared governance. 

  • Engages in personal development and supports system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines. 

  • Actively participates in a minimum of 1 departmental or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance 

  • IL: 20 Continuing education hours per year (10 of these are required for IL licensure) or WI: 20 Education Hours 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred.

Minimum 2 years RN experience with a certification.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE 

Licensed as an RN in state of practice 

Approved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days  

Other certification(s) per unit requirements. For example: ACLS, PALS, PEARS, and NRP 

Professional Nursing Certification in your specialty or Advanced Degree (ex. Masters)  

If hired prior to 09/01/2024 may require a Certification Completion Agreement or specific years of applicable experience to qualify per department guidelines.

Director of Nursing RN Duties and Responsibilities: Reviews daily work assignments to ensure they meet regulatory compliance and provide consistent staffing whenever possible. Collaborates with the Administrator in the planning of staff development programs that will enhance staff knowledge in providing quality resident care. Ensures each resident’s/patient’s RAI/IPOC process is carried out on a timely basis. Works with regional personnel to continuously improve the quality of resident/patient care. On call 24 hours a day for nursing emergencies. If out of town/not available, designates a qualified nurse to assume such duties. The designee must be approved by the Administrator and appropriate facility personnel notified. Responsible for providing oversight in maintaining, monitoring and evaluation of records and designation of nursing programs essential in the care of the residents. Strategic plans or program development for improved outcomes to reduce unnecessary returns to acute care. Perform other duties as assigned. Director of Nursing RN Skills and Abilities: Proven strong management skills, including delegating responsibility to subordinates, performance management, conflict management, and leading through others. Must have good financial and management skills. Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Director of Nursing RN Education and Experience: Current CPR Certification required. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. Current RN license with the state required. Prefer previous DON experience of at least three years. Physical Requirements: Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
