Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Staff Nurse for the Midstate Correctional Facility, located in Wrightstown, NJ.The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus for inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections.

Duties include:
* Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the resident-patient including adolescents (13-17 years), adults (18 to 64 years) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system.
* Performs assessments of resident-patient in a variety of settings such as initial intake area, health care unit for sick call, emergency situations in housing, chronic care clinics and infirmary.
* Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
* Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems.
* Plans nursing care by identification of resident-patient needs based on assessments. Makes appropriate, timely referrals and initiates appropriate nursing care based on institutional policies and procedures.
* As team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties to other health care team members based on their skill, knowledge and experience and guides the provision of care by others.

How you make a difference The Charge Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing the total health care delivery system in their assigned nursing unit, including the collection and evaluation of health status data, nursing diagnosis, goal setting, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. They provide direct supervision of patient teaching and ensure that ancillary personnel only perform services for which they are qualified. The Charge RN is accountable for the overall quality of patient care in their assigned unit. Monitoring nursing service, maintain accurate records, and identify potential problems, proposing corrective actions as needed. PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Functions as the hemodialysis team leader in the provision of chronic hemodialysis care and treatment. Provides day to day direction and supervision to assigned direct patient care staff. Communicates with the physician and other members of the healthcare team to interpret, adjust, and complete patient care plans. Provides safe, effective delivery of patient care in compliance with standards outlined in the facility procedure manual, as well as regulations set forth by the company, state, and federal agencies. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: General and Staff Related: Provide day to day guidance, support and direction to direct patient care staff, providing informal feedback on an ongoing basis and formal feedback input for the annual performance evaluation. Continuously monitor patient's condition with regards to problems and potential complications associated with dialysis. Administer medications to patients per physician's orders. Act as the subject matter expert and as a resource for staff members. Supervise and participate in completion of short- and long-term care plans. Admit new patients according to facility procedure. Ensure educational needs of patients are met and educate the patient and family about End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet and medication. Technical: Supervise the safe and effective use of all equipment involved in direct patient care. Operate all dialysis related and emergency equipment safely and efficiently when needed. Perform required testing and verification and initial the checklist for start-up and shut-down procedures as outlined in the Technical Services Manual. Complete Nurse's Technical Training Program/Water Quality Facility Training. Other: Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager Assist with the interviewing of potential direct patient care staff as requested.
