Job Summary

$1000 Sign On Bonus

A non-exempt medical office position responsible for providing direct nursing care in a medical office setting under the direction of a physician, assists medical providers, and maintains a clean and safe environment in accordance with the policies and procedures of the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.
  • Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Assists in the assessment of patient needs and health plan by taking vital signs, history, medication listing, assessing visual acuity and determining chief complaint. Assesses patients’ physical and mental status.
  • Completes all necessary documentation in the patient’s medical record in accordance with practice’s charting policy. Prepares equipment and assists physicians with medical treatments, exams and medical procedures
  • Administers prescribed oral medications and gives intramuscular and subcutaneous and intradermal injections. Performs venipunctures, CLIA-Waived and non-CLIA Waived lab testing.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and visitors. This includes cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments in accordance with practice policies. Stocks rooms in preparation for the daily work schedule. Takes inventory of medical and exam room supplies.
  • Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Arranges for specialized consultations and appointments for testing as ordered by the physicians. Notifies appropriate insurance personnel to pre-certify surgeries or tests ordered by the physician or other health care provider, which require pre-certification by the insurance company.
  • Answering office phones, assisting front desk in scheduling appointments and directing calls appropriately. Assists in checking out patients and assists them with referral processing and scheduling process

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program, preferred.

Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Experience:

Required:

Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited school OR

Three (3) years of relevant work experience in a healthcare setting in lieu of a Medical Assistant diploma or a current Medical Assistant certification

Preferred:

Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited school and 1 year of relevant work experience highly preferred

Other requirements:

Occasional local travel to support other clinics is required

Pay Range: $21.85 - $32.80 Major Responsibilities: Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care. Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.). Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered. Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order. Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards. Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration. Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals. Cross trained to perform duties that are relevant to specialty or clinic practice within the scope of the Medical Assistant. Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation. Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately. Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards. Minimum Job Requirements Education Greater Charlotte: High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or may have completed structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214 in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT. IL/WI Divisions: High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years. Wake Forest: High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or may have completed structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214 in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT. Floyd & Navicent: High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years. Experience No Experience Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians. Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems. Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday. Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case- by -case basis. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills. Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids. Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
