Resource Nurse- Adult Step Down Unit

Who We Are:

Elliot Health System is excited to share the opening of a new Adult Stepdown Unit (ASDU). It is a 12-bed unit with private rooms incorporating aspects from our Intensive Care Unit that improve nursing satisfaction such as: ceiling lifts to assist with safe patient movement and supply carts in every room to streamline care. The unit will have substantial telemetry monitoring and a medication room to promote safe patient care.

About the Job:

The Resource Nurse directly oversees and serves as an immediate, first line clinical resource to staff on a designated unit and shift. The Resource Nurse demonstrates well developed clinical competencies appropriate to specialty area when providing direct patient care or guiding other staff. Functions as an integral member of the unit’s management team and works to ensure smooth real time operations of unit on assigned shift and adheres to values under the EHS Professional Practice Model which guide all dimensions of practice.

Schedule Details:

  • Shift:
    • Days: 7a-7p
    • Nights: 7p-7a
  • Meetings:
    • Leadership Meetings: Every 2nd Friday of the month, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
    • Resource Meetings: Every last Wednesday of the month, 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
  • Holidays: Required to work two designated holidays in the summer and two in the winter

assignment.

Accountability

Provides oversight and ensures smooth shift-based operations including but not limited to

completion of unit specific tasks, patient flow, interdisciplinary collaboration, patient

satisfaction, issue resolution and occurrence reporting.

Collaborates with the Clinical Nurse Manager to effectively control costs through innovative

and economical utilization of personnel, materials and equipment and assists in the mentor[1]ship of staff as stewards of resources.

Respect & Role Modeling

Applies well developed critical thinking skills in guiding and assisting staff to identify and

address clinical concerns in order to promote optimal patient outcomes.

Serves as a role model; coaches and mentors other staff, promotes teamwork, and assesses

performance, behavior and attendance of staff on assigned shift and communicates

information to Clinical Nurse Manager to facilitate effective and timely completion of

performance reviews.

Serves as the designated shift resource for assigned new graduate nurses during their first

year of employment, beyond their precepted orientation period.

Ethics & Integrity

In the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager, collaborates with Administrative Supervisor to

address/stabilize management and operational issues requiring immediate attention; i.e.,

staffing and scheduling, disciplinary actions.

Supports the department’s Shared Governance structure and is accountable for quality

improvement outcomes.

Who You Are:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required or must be actively enrolled in a program. Termination of a program without a degree completion, will remove eligibility for the role.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of current experience in a progressive, intermediate, or critical care setting. Must be at a clinical level that reflects proficiency and in-depth knowledge or nursing practice. In addition, must have experience in a leadership role, such as Charge Nurse.
  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of New Hampshire required or must hold a Compact Nursing License
  • Life support authorization (BLS) appropriate to patient population required
  • Specialty certification required within six (6) months of eligibility
