Position Summary

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering quality patient care. Under the supervision of providers and clinic leadership, this position supports both clinical and administrative functions to ensure efficient clinic operations and excellent patient service.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Collect and document patient information regarding health status and concerns.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Assist physicians and nurse practitioners during exams and procedures.
  • Perform direct patient care activities as directed.
  • Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Collect, label, and submit laboratory specimens as ordered.
  • Perform EKGs accurately and according to established protocols.
  • Provide patient education materials and reinforce provider instructions.
  • Maintain infection prevention and safety standards.
  • Monitor, maintain, and stock clinical equipment and supplies.

Administrative Duties

  • Manage daily patient messages and maintain the provider In-Basket.
  • Answer phones professionally and accurately route messages.
  • Greet patients and families in a friendly, compassionate manner.
  • Schedule, reschedule, confirm, and follow up on appointments.
  • Complete patient registration and verify demographic and insurance information.
  • Obtain referrals and prior authorizations as required by insurance plans.
  • Process medical records requests according to policy.
  • Collect co-payments, co-insurance, and other patient payments.
  • Accurately handle cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
  • Answer basic patient billing and account questions.
  • Assist in resolving patient concerns and complaints.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a pediatric clinic environment.
  • Work collaboratively to support clinic goals and patient care needs.
  • Serve as a positive team member and role model for coworkers.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
  • Adhere to ethical standards related to healthcare reimbursement and compliance.
  • Participate in ongoing education, in-services, and training opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant education program.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Preferred

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Previous medical assistant experience, preferably in pediatrics or ambulatory care.
  • Additional language skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, and grip to perform job duties.
