Job Summary

Under the direction of the director, assumes a leadership role in the overall functioning of the unit. An experienced Registered Nurse, who in addition to providing direct patient care, is accountable for facilitating an interdisciplinary approach to patient care, patient flow, staffing, resource utilization and problem solving. Assists the director in monitoring and evaluating staff performance based on established standards of care.

Responsibilities

  • Assists staff in applying the nursing process in the management of patients with complex needs
  • Assists in identifying educational needs of the unit staff and works collaboratively with Professional Practice Department.
  • Anticipates and solves patient clinical and customer service needs while addressing long term solutions.
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration with co-workers, other disciplines, and other departments in identifying customer service needs.
  • Coordinates unit based staffing assignments on a shift basis to achieve high quality and cost effective care.
  • Performs related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Education: Associates Degree in Nursing
    • Experience: 3-5 years of Emergency Department Nursing experience
    • Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Preferred:
    • Education: BSN referred

Job Profile Summary This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. Job Description Minimum Qualifications: 1. Massachusetts RN Licensure. 2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. 3. Department Specific: Certification(s) relevant to the department and the type of patient care being provided may be required. 4. Experience based on level (I, II, III, or IV). Conducts and documents accurate clinical assessments. Develops, implements, and evaluates the patient’s individualized plan of care. Uses professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's needs. Manages own patient assignment by delegating and effectively based on patient needs and skills of team members. Develops a comprehensive educational plan for the patient and family, utilizing appropriate resources, and documents according to department standards. Recognizes patient/family rights through support of their informed decisions and advanced directives. Continually evaluates and revises the care plan according to changes in the patient’s health status. Develops a comprehensive discharge plan utilizing appropriate resources and referrals including community resources. Supports the development of new staff members and helps facilitate their transition into unit. Guides the professional growth of department staff through precepting. Participates in professional development by identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate education. Participates in departmental committees as needed. Physical Requirements: 1. Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and turning patients. 2. Prolonged standing and walking. 3. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting. 4. Exposure to infectious disease and possible carcinogenic chemicals. 5. Exposure of blood-borne pathogens. 6. Requires fine manual dexterity to lift and maneuver patients. 7. Requires visual and aural acuity necessary to monitor patient care. Skills & Abilities: 1. Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team. 2.
