Activity Aide (Full-time & weekends)
Position Summary
This position is to support the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual programs for residents in supportive living and memory care. This role plays an important part in creating a positive, engaging, and meaningful environment that enhances residents’ quality of life. This is a full-time position with rotating weekends.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating activity programs and quality assurance initiatives for the Activities Department.
Observe resident participation, mood, behavior, and engagement during activities, documenting and reporting progress as appropriate.
Maintain accurate and descriptive activity notes that reflect services provided and residents’ responses.
Help create a warm, welcoming, and uplifting atmosphere throughout the community.
Build positive working relationships with all departments to ensure daily operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Prepare activity rooms and common areas for scheduled programs and assist with clean-up after events and activities.
Follow resident care plans when providing daily activities and individualized engagement.
Assist with purchasing department supplies, and activity materials as needed.
Maintain confidentiality of resident information and comply with all HIPAA and facility guidelines.
Supervise and engage residents during activities to support their physical, emotional, social, and mental well-being.
Visit residents who remain in their rooms and provide one-on-one engagement such as conversation, letter writing, crafts, games, and other personalized activities.
Recommend activity equipment and supply needs to supervisors to help enhance programming.
Comfortable leading and collaborating with volunteers in a professional and supportive environment.
Willing to learn and confidently fill in for the receptionist role as needed.
Qualifications
Previous experience in a Long-Term Care or Activities Department is preferred but not required.
Must have a positive attitude, patience, compassion, enthusiasm, and the ability to work with residents at varying levels of functioning.
Self-motivated and dependable team player who takes initiative and works well independently.
Professional, reliable, and committed to providing high-quality resident experiences.
Strong communication skills with the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Physical Requirements
Ability to move throughout the workday and assist with activity-related tasks.
Ability to manage the mental and emotional responsibilities of the position in a professional manner.
Must demonstrate flexibility, integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, families, staff, and outside agencies.
Ability to work closely and compassionately with elderly residents.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift up to 25 pounds and transport items as needed.
May be required to assist with resident evacuation procedures during emergency situations.
