The Cardiac Medical/Surgical Unit at Maine Medical Center – Biddeford is a 40 Bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) unit providing care of acute medical, cardiac, and telemetry patients, providing a dynamic and supportive environment for nurses at all stages of their careers. Team members care for a diverse patient population while building strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and cardiac monitoring skills. As nurses grow and advance in their practice, opportunities for Intermediate Care (IMC) training are available, allowing them to expand their expertise and confidently care for higher-acuity patients when needed. Our collaborative team is committed to delivering exceptional patient care while fostering professional development and continuous learning.

This department is on a self-scheduling model, with normal shifts 12 hours in duration.

Nurse Residency Program (nrp)

  • New graduate RNs and RNs with less than 1 year of experience from date of licensure, accepting a position you are automatically enrolled in our yearlong nurse residency program.
  • The NRP provides guidance and support to newnurses starting their careers.
  • Meet monthly to help with the transition of becoming a professional RN for training, continued learning, groupexercisesand more.

Summary (New Graduate RN)

The MH Registered Nurse - Acute Care role provides high quality patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient outcomes. Collaborates, delegates, and communicates with members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal care.

MH RN I: This level represents the beginner in their clinical role. This care team member has less than 12 months experience and is primarily developing the required knowledge and skills to work within their setting. Level I must achieve all performance expectations, by completion of facility and unit orientation, and satisfactorily completing the introductory period.

Summary (Experienced RN)

The Registered Nurse II - Acute Care – MMC BID SAN roleis responsible forthe management of patient care, including clinical nursing practice/caring, leadership, management, professionalism, and growth/development, as well as the independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) – New Graduate RN

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required; BSN preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current applicable state(s) license as a Registered Professional Nurse required. Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date. Other certifications may be required specific to area of practice or in accordance with Department guidelines.
  • Experience: New Grad or RN with less than 12 months experience.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs) – Experienced RN

  • Education:Graduate of an accredited School of Nursingrequired; BSN preferred.

Compensation for part-time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).

Description Maine Medical Center Nursing Req #: 89915 This is a bargaining unit position Job Posting Date: 8/20/2026 R6 is a dynamic 24-bed neurosurgical / trauma unit with an embedded 9-bed neuro-focused Intermediate Care Unit (IMC). Bean 2 is a fast-paced 12-bed Total Joint Center. This position offers the R6/B2 RN an opportunity to care for a diverse patient population in a supportive environment as an integral member of a collaborative team of highly trained staff. The R6 patient population includes adults and older adolescents with neurological and orthopedic conditions including closed head injuries, strokes, brain tumors, seizure disorders, multi-traumas, and conditions requiring neurosurgical intervention. RNs providing care in the R6 IMC demonstrate astute assessment and critical thinking skills, as patients in IMC often have multi-system issues that require telemetry monitoring, intra-cranial pressure monitoring, medication drips, frequent intervention, or other higher acuity care needs. The Bean 2 patient population consists of adults who have undergone joint replacement surgeries. This unit serves as the Joint Center for our nationally recognized and Joint Commission accredited joint replacement program.
