Description Of Position

  • The Nursing Assistant provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions.
  • Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
  • Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding, activity).
  • Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc) to appropriate staff.
  • Collects information regarding patient/patient condition: vital signs, intake and output, food intake.
  • Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks.
  • Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards.
  • Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
  • Utilizes unit specific equipment competently.
  • Competently performs unit specific procedures.
  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan.
  • Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations.
  • Follows established hospital/department safety policies.
  • Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions.

Education And Work Experience

  • High school graduate/GED preferred Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement.

  • CPR certified preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; ability to exercise independent judgment.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work weekends
  • Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations.
  • May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.

Job Summary The Nursing Assistant (CNA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Required Certified Nursing Assistant CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of date into the position by being enrolled in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through Endorsement. CNA training and certification required and provided by facility.
