Day Kimball Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department in Putnam, CT. This role provides emergent, high-acuity care for patients presenting with undifferentiated and potentially life-threatening conditions requiring rapid assessment, stabilization, and intervention.
Clinical Overview
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for diagnosing responses to actual or potential health problems and providing basic emergent, supportive, and restorative care through use of the nursing process. Our nursing model is relationship-based, supporting individualized patient-centered care while operating in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and rapid decision-making.

Job Responsibilities
Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients in our Emergency Department
- Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination
- Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examination, interprets findings, and alters plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area
- Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses
- Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
- Consults with physician per established Day Kimball Hospital policy
- Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patients
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of Connecticut is required.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent is required; if not currently certified, must obtain within three (3) months of employment.
- Experience in Emergency Nursing is preferred.
- Completion of basic arrhythmia course and /or challenge exam within duration of orientation.
- Current ACLS certification or completion within duration of orientation.
- Current PALS certification or completion within duration of orientation.
- Current ENA ESI Triage course or completion within duration of orientation.
- Current NVCIT certification or completion within duration of orientation.
- TNCC certification encouraged.
- CEN certification encouraged.
- Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
- Ability to recognize unsafe and life-threatening situations and how to intervene appropriately
- Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, effective communication, organizational skills, problem solving, and ability to make appropriate independent decisions
- Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
- Demonstrated compassionate customer service and ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues
- Solid foundation in evaluating plans of care and reformulating as necessary
