Summary:

Family Medicine Residency Clinic is seeking a dedicated and certified PA/APRN to join our athletic department. This individual will leverage their clinical expertise as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), specializing in sports medicine, to provide direct patient care, coordinate medical services, and manage athletic training staff. The Sports Medicine Provider will be responsible for providing high-quality care to student-athletes, focusing on injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. This position plays a critical role in promoting the health and safety of our athletes, ensuring their well-being both on and off the field.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current, unrestricted license to practice in the State of Arkansas as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).

Preferred national certification: PA-C (NCCPA) for Physician Assistants, or Applicable APRN certification (ANCC/AANP or specialty board as appropriate).

Current BLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent); ability to obtain ACLS within a designated timeframe if required by the organization.

Demonstrated clinical competence in evaluation and management of acute musculoskeletal injuries, sports-related conditions, and common outpatient medical concerns.

Ability to perform and document sports physicals / pre-participation examinations in accordance with state and organizational requirements.

Strong clinical judgment with ability to triage, stabilize, and coordinate escalation of care when needed.

Proficiency with EMR documentation, clinical communication, and care coordination.

Ability to work flexible hours, including coverage that may include early mornings, evenings, or occasional athletic events as assigned.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with athletes, parents/guardians (when applicable), coaches, athletic trainers, and supervising physicians.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1–3+ years of clinical experience in sports medicine, orthopedics, urgent care, emergency medicine, or family medicine.

Experience working directly with athletic teams (high school, collegiate, or professional).

Additional training/certification in sports medicine (examples: CAQ, fellowship, sports medicine CME focus, orthopedic procedures).

Experience with concussion evaluation/management, return-to-play protocols, and injury prevention education.

Ability to perform common sports medicine procedures (as permitted by scope and privileging), such as:

  • joint injections/aspirations
  • splinting/immobilization
  • wound care/minor procedures

Demonstrated ability to support quality improvement, injury tracking, and athlete health initiatives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Sports Medicine Provider will work in a fast-paced environment, balancing responsibilities across multiple sports programs. This includes outdoor and indoor activities, often requiring standing, walking, and physical assistance to athletes.
