MainStreet Family Care is growing, and we are looking to hire a fast, fun, and friendly Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to join our team full time! You will provide patient focused care to help our patients feel better FAST! Boom! Services provided to the public include urgent care, primary medical care, telemedicine, and occupational medicine. The ideal applicant will be able to lead a small team while working in a high volume and fast-paced urgent care environment.

Following our on-site hosted HQ orientation and training, you will have several training shifts with existing providers in one of our clinics. But the support doesn’t end there! Responsibilities: 

You and your team will care for every patient who comes through the door within your scope of practice. We do whatever we can for every patient. Some examples of care needed include: 

  • Diagnosing and treating cold, flu, strep, COVID, and other upper respiratory issues 

  • Minor procedures (toenail removal, foreign object removal, etc.) 

  • Suturing 

  • Splinting 

  • General Orthopedic evaluations/management 

  • Review of x-rays (to be over-read by Radiologist, too) 

  • General Dermatology 

  • General eye problems 

  • General EKG interpretations 

  • Emergency management skills 

  • General GYN expertise 

  • Treating children of all ages 

  • Occupational medicine 

  • Telemedicine 

 

Schedule: 

MainStreet Clinic Hours 

We are open extended hours, 7-days-a-week: 

  • Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. 

  • Saturday and Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 

 

Work a rotating schedule that includes every other weekend, sample below: 

  • Week 1: Monday (ON), Tuesday (ON), Wednesday (OFF), Thursday (OFF), Friday (ON), Saturday (ON) and Sunday (ON). 

  • Week 2: Monday (OFF), Tuesday (OFF), Wednesday (ON), Thursday (ON), Friday (OFF), Saturday (OFF) and Sunday (OFF). 

Qualifications: 

  • Family Nurse Practitioner Board Certification required 

  • MSN, or higher education required (New graduate friendly!) 

  • Are you DOT certified or willing to become DOT certified (we cover the cost of the certification)? 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Experience working in EMR and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.) preferred

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will perform physical exams, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and sub-specialty referrals, prescribe appropriate interventions and medications, and provide overall care coordination services. The PNP/PA will contribute to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provide leadership in the program. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)/Physician Assistant (PA) may also perform inpatient consults on infants from the pediatric wards who have discharge planning needs and will be following up in SICC or PCNC, such as those needing be discharged home with NG tubes. In this role, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant performs a thorough chart review, physical exam, and provides recommendations to the inpatient team to support the infant’s feeding or development and management related to their transition from hospital to home. Relocation Assistance (based on eligibility) ***This position is eligible for a $10,000 Commitment bonus, & Relocation Assistance is also available *** Job Location Duke University Hospital Job Summary The Duke Hospital Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP), includes both Nurse Practitioner (NP) and/or Physician Assistant (PA), provides direct patient care services for critically ill pediatric patients aged 0-21 with acute, complex, critical, and chronic illness across a variety of care settings. It is appropriate for the APP to provide care for an aging pediatric patient beyond the age of 21 with a pediatric condition for a limited period of time. Pediatric Critical Care medicine APPs will care for patients either in the Pediatric Intensive Care unit (PICU), Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care unit (PCICU), or Pediatric Progressive Care Unit (PPCU). In addition, APPs will provide critical care management on the Rapid Response and Code blue teams. Utilizing acquired knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology, the PCCM APP exercises independent decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and development of the plan of care for patients on the PCCM service. In collaboration and consultation with the supervising physician, the PCCM APP contributes to excellence in patient care. As an advanced practice provider, the PCCM APP is additionally involved in education, consultation, research and leadership throughout the Duke Health System, organization and profession. Job Eligibility Requirements Education NP: Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program. PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Physician Assistant Program, Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree preferred. Certification NP: PNP-AC or PNP-AC/PC. FNPs and PNP-PCs are not being considered for this position. PA: PA-C Licensure NP: Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as an NP. PA: Current medical license issued by the NCMB with authorization to practice as a Physician Assistant. Both: State and Federal DEA unrestricted prescriptive authority Experience Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant experience in a pediatric acute care clinical setting strongly preferred. 2+ years of ICU nursing experience is also preferred. Life support BLS PALS Recommended: ACLS Physical and mental requirements: Able to clearly articulate scope of practice, and practices within those guidelines as a Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant in the state of North Carolina and within the Duke University Health System. Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively to solve complex problems Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others. Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up. Able to use fine motor skills Able to record activities, document assessments & interventions; prepare reports and presentations; Able to use computer and learn new software programs Able to provide leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals Able to navigate the Hospital and DUHS to provide clinical expertise to specific patient populations Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds Able to remain focused and organized Able to work collaboratively with all levels of personnel Job Hours Rotating 12 hours shifts to provide 24hour/day 7 day a week coverage. Schedule may be modified by the clinical or leadership team when needed.
