We’ve cared for patients with cardiac arrhythmias since we opened the region’s first program dedicated to these conditions in 1985.

 We are seeking a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to join our Heart Rhythm team In this role, the NP/PA would focus on managing patients in the outpatient clinic settings as well as performing consultations in area hospitals and seeing patients for peri-procedure management. This team member  will be working with our experienced attending physicians whom will be trusted and supporting mentors to promote learning, growth, and career development. 

Work responsibility will be five 8-hour shifts a week Monday through Friday. Weekend call is required for this role, anticipated to be 1:5. 

 

Experience is preferred as there is a great deal of autonomy for the day-to-day patient management of this role.  A background in cardiology is a plus. 
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
  • License/Certification/Registration (DEA, CSR, CPR)
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills required
  • Superior computer skills required
  • Travel Required (between office/hospital locations)

About this Job: Pulmonary Sleep Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA)- MedStar Montgomery Medical Center Our advanced practice providers work collaboratively with physicians to provide integrated, high-quality care at all locations. As one of the largest medical groups in the country, MedStar Health APPs work with medical, surgical, and specialty providers to provide patient-centered care. We currently have a need for a Pulmonary Sleep Medicine APP. Position Summary The APP will be working with a team of 2 Physicians in this role. The role will involve a combination of both inpatient and outpatient care. A formal shadowing/training period of 3 to 6 months will be provided to providers without prior pulmonary experience Inpatient The APP will work alongside the attending physician on the pulmonary service at our community hospital. This involves: Evaluating patients on the pulmonary consult service. This involves doing initial history/physical consultations and follow-up progress notes. Establishing appropriate medical diagnoses, ordering tests, and recommending treatment. Collaborating with all involved care teams, including other consultants. Co-ordination of inpatient to outpatient pulmonary care. Assisting the attending physician with procedures such as chest ultrasound, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, pleuro-evac management, administration of intrapleural thrombolytics, bronchoscopy/EBUS, pleurX catheter management and teaching. Outpatient The outpatient clinic is conveniently located within the main hospital and operates Tuesday through Friday. The APP will work collaboratively with the attending physicians on duty while also managing a portion of their own patient visits independently. APP will be seeing new and follow-up patients. This involves doing initial history/physical consultations and follow-up office notes. APP will most commonly be managing patients with COPD, bronchiectasis, asthma, smoking cessation, lung nodules, lung cancer, lung cancer screening, ILD, pulmonary infections and pleural effusions. There will be focus of independently seeing patient for smoking cessation and lung cancer screening. APP will order outpatient testing which includes PFT, 6MWT, MCT and radiology. Outpatient procedures such as thoracentesis and lung biopsy are done with diagnostic radiology. Daily clinic responsibilities include answering messages from patients/other providers, coordination of care/appointments with clinic staff , medication refills, prior-authorizations, oxygen re-certifications etc. May assist with outpatient bronchoscopy procedures which are done in the OR.
