As a Medical Assistant-Certified (MA-C) you will assist providers and other members of the clinic health care team by performing a variety of back-office and patient-related tasks to ensure a smooth patient workflow within the department. In this role, you will provide a variety of patient care procedures within the scope of practice as defined by the Samaritan Clinic under Washington State certification. The scope of practice may include, but is not limited to: injections, EKG's, ear lavage and blood draws, measuring patient vital signs, proficiency in swabs to include Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Strep and Covid-19, manage rooming and patient flow, including pre-visit preparation, assisting with the patient visit, and post-visit duties as well as informing the provider of schedule changes that impact patient flow.

Samaritan Clinic patient care includes a myriad of services from Family Medicine, CareToday, to specialty areas such as Behavioral Health, Adult Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Outpatient Cardiology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Gastroenterology, Urology, and growing! 

We are seeking a candidate with a positive attitude, great customer service skills, the ability to demonstrate compassion, and anticipate future patient needs. This position will support our growing clinic team serving both our Pioneer and Patton clinic locations. Previous experience working as a Medical Assistant, Certified preferred.

This is a full-time position working Monday - Friday, with availability between 7:45am -5:30pm.

 

EXTRA INCENTIVE:

Up to $7,500 sign on bonus, subject to two-year Hospital Sign on Bonus Agreement. (External candidates only.)

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Reviews schedules, organizes patient flow, and escorts patients to exam room assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, preparing for exam; take and record height, weight, vitals, temperature, head circumference (when applicable).
  2. Prepares for exam: collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines.
  3. Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities that may include medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving; checking vital signs; physical examination preparations; clinical pharmacology; drug administration through various routes including injections; prescription verifications with physician’s orders; minor surgery assists including surgical tray set-up pre/post-surgical care, applying dressings, and suture removal; biohazard waste disposal and monitoring; therapeutic modalities; instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics, and home care; laboratory procedures including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines; quality control methods; CLIA-waived testing; and specimen handling.
  4. Conducts and administers pregnancy tests, occult blood tests, hematocrits, blood draws, peak flows, glucose monitoring, PPDs, injections, immunizations, Snellen tests, EKGs, Ishihara’s color test, rapid strep tests, tympanograms, and dipstick urine samples.
  5. Assists with suture removal, wound packing, simple dressings, nebulizer treatments and catheterization.
  6. Assists provider with procedures including pelvic exams, pap smears, office surgeries and throat cultures.
  7. Notifies patients of specialist appointment, make appropriate insurance referrals.
  8. Notifies patients of test results. Calls in prescription refills as requested by provider.
  9. Performs clerical responsibilities that support the overall operations of the Clinic as assigned. Listens and responds to patient questions and concerns and advises where permissible and/or obtains information from the provider. Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with Samaritan’s HIPAA Policy.
  10. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  11. Utilizes necessary equipment with appropriate safety measures, with required training and check off prior to use.  Reports problems or concerns with equipment to the Clinic Nursing Manager/Supervisor.  Does not mistreat equipment.
  12. Understands and demonstrates appropriate infection control practices in accordance with the Organization’s policy. Demonstrates ethical conduct and practices.
  13. May be exposed to varying and unpredictable situations.  Handles emergency or crisis situations to include performing emergency patient care. Responds appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
  14. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  15. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to:  security and safety, understanding of chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS), equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  16. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
  17. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization's values.
  18. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
  19. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Active license in the State of Washington as a Medical Assistant-Certified.
  3. Current (Healthcare Provider [HCP] level) CPR certification.
  4. Experience working in a clinic setting providing support to providers in medical specialties preferred.

Medical Assistant-Apprentice

Medical Assistant (MA) Apprentices are responsible for providing direct patient care and will practice up to the skills learned and approved to practice through the Apprenticeship program guidelines. MA Apprentices will apply current healthcare concepts and assist with routine or general clinical responsibilities that may contribute directly and indirectly to patient care under the supervision of the MA-C Coach. May work up to the documented level of academic and clinical competence accomplished in the individual’s Apprenticeship program. The Apprentice is expected to complete 2,000 hours of clinical practice under the guidance of the MA-C Coach, coursework (unpaid), 3 skills labs (unpaid), and participate in all required apprenticeship activities. Successful completion of the Apprenticeship program and the national MA-C certification test, in conjunction with remaining an employee in good standing, will qualify Apprentices for entry into the regular job classification as an MA-C. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Shadows Medical Assistant - Certified coach per Washington Association of Community Health (WACH) Completes WACH InReach coursework and follows all requirements of the program. Responsibilities Prepare patients for Mohs surgery by taking medical histories, recording vital signs, and addressing patient concerns. Assist surgeons by preparing and handling surgical instruments and equipment during procedures. Ensure the surgical environment is maintained in compliance with safety and infection control standards. Provide post-operative instructions and support to patients to promote optimal recovery. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient interactions and procedures in electronic health records (EHR). Coordinate with administrative staff to schedule appointments and follow-up visits efficiently. High school diploma or equivalent; Medical Assistant certification or surgical technician training preferred. Experience working in Mohs Surgery is required. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and surgical aseptic techniques. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and clinical staff. Ability to multitask and work well under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare software.
