Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our NICU Nurse at St. Francis Medical Center, you’ll monitor the complex medical needs of sick and preterm infants. 


Every day, you will provide compassionate care, serving as their advocate; supporting their best interests when they cannot. 

 To thrive in this role, you’ll heavily depend on your ability to multitask and react. You’ll clinically care for your patients, remaining focused and attentive, as you continuously monitor them throughout your shift. 

  • Monitor patients' conditions and assess their needs.
  • Educate parents on various interventions or procedures, medications (name and purpose), exams, etc.
  • Assess newborns and provide care.
  • Communicate with the care management team.
  • Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their families.

We are offering up to $10,000 sign-on bonus and up to $10,000 educational assistance to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Graduate of an RN nursing program
  • Active RN licensure in the state of Nebraska or nurse licensure compact. 
  • BLS (Basic life support) through American Heart Association  
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required within 6 months of hire.
Where You'll Work

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 9 bed Level II unit that cares for infants 32 weeks gestation and over with special needs including mechanical ventilation. We have private rooms that allow parents to stay with their infants following discharge.

Applies principles of proper body alignment during transfer and positioning of patient. Ensures safety of patient during the use of electrical equipment (i.e. electrosurgical cautery units). Correctly collects and accurately labels specimens. Documents and maintains accurate OR nursing records including: intraoperative care, patient’s condition, medications, treatment, responses and assessment of changes, etc. Identifies, labels, and dispenses medications and solutions safely. Assists anesthesia as requested by anesthesia personnel. Demonstrates ability to assist in ACLS interventions. Maintains surgeons’ preference books Become proficient in scrubbing and circulating duties for all specialties. Fill in other duties as needed to meet OR staffing such as housekeeping and workroom duties. Cover call shifts as assigned with a 15 minute response time. Assist in the orientation of new staff/students Assist in the maintenance of a clean, dust-free environment. Coordinate or assist in the coordination of specialty supplies.
