Preforms a variety of patient care activities, such as vaccine/medication administration, phlebotomy, and point of care testing. Provides indirect patient care via phone or EHR by addressing patient questions, processing medication refills and scheduling follow-up appointments. Utilize electronic health record for efficient care. Qualifications One year experience as a clinic back office medical assistant preferred. Education: Completion of a medical assistant program or equivalent experience; or Completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces; or Completion of Basic or Advanced Oregon Emergency Medical Technician program (Oregon only) Licensure MA certification required within one year, from either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or the National Healthcare Association (NHA). MA certification requirement may be met instead by current Oregon Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license and national EMT registration (NREMT). Oregon only. Responsibilities Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate. Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures. Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed. Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested. Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including but not limited to, hormones and biological growth factors. Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols. Processes instruments and equipment as needed. Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist. Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians. Schedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedules appointments to follow-upon test results, as applicable. Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc. Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician. Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred. Current CPR certification required.
