Department Summary:

The Intensive Care Unit at Duke Raleigh Campus is a 28-bed multidisciplinary ICU. 2-1 staff to patient ratio. Our patient population varies from neuro, neurovascular, cardiac conditions, neurosurgery, liver & renal, sepsis and more. Our team's main goal is to deliver exemplary care for our patients to ensure optimal outcomes. Teamwork, open communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration is valued with our team.

 

General Description of the Job Class

  • Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients in accordance with guidelines established within the Discipline of Nursing Clinical Ladder Program and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • The position will provide local level leadership in the areas of administration, education, informatics and quality.

 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Identify care needs for patient populations across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate and provide leadership in the development of standards of care, patient/family education and staff education to address the needs of specific populations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and provide leadership within the delivery of patient care.
  • Provide leadership in educational activities, departmental committees, research projects and other health-related projects.
  • Provide evaluation, direction and guidance in the proper selection, use, care and control of material resources.
  • Appraise quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and collaborate with appropriate departments to assist with vendor selection and feedback on performance.
  • Guide the professional growth of others across the continuum of care through role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring. This may include designing orientation modules, primary precepting of senior nursing students.
  • Provide leadership at a departmental, entity, community or regional/national level for initiatives focused on improving the quality of care for populations of patients and growth of others.
  • Conduct performance reviews.
  • Effectively recommend personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations and other related activities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

 

 

 

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program.

Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.

 

Experience

  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical nursing experience is required for Level II

 

 

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
  • BLS required.

Responsibilities Assesses all patients assigned and establishes and implements the Plan of Care Adheres to policies and procedures addressing the scope of services outlined in both Infusion nursing services, pharmacy services and state laws and regulations Adheres to INS and IgNS standards of practice, CDC guidelines, scope and standards of practice, and code of ethics as defined by American Nurses Association Collaborates with pharmacy staff, sales partners, ordering provider and patient to develop and monitor goals of patients’ therapies Completes patient care documentation in place of service including patients’ home or AIS Manages vascular access devices, to include insertion of peripheral infusion devices and ability to draw labs via peripheral venipuncture Educates patients and caregivers Evaluates progress toward goals and makes recommendations to physicians for changes in the Plan of Care based on patients’ needs Coordinates nursing care with home health and other community agencies as indicated Participate in on-call rotation as scheduled per branch protocol Complete expense reports monthly tracking mileage and other miscellaneous incidental expenses Complete annual competencies and mandatory training within assigned due dates Supervisory Responsibility: No Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred Valid nursing license in state(s) of practice Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse Previous infusion and home health care experience preferred Extensive experience in IV therapy preferred Current CPR certification Flexible schedule with the availability to work a variety of shift models Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team Effective verbal and written communication skills Valid driver’s license and auto insurance Must meet company standards for driving record as well as driver age requirement Percentage of Travel: 100%-Regular driving to patient’s homes for visits is required as part of this position **To perform this role will require constantly sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping and typing on a keyboard with fingers.
